CALDWELL RANKED 16TH IN NFCA PRESEASON SOFTBALL POLL
2-1-06
CALDWELL,
N.J. - The Caldwell College softball team is ranked 16th in the National
Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Preseason Poll, released on
Tuesday. The ranking marks the 16th consecutive national poll in which the
Cougars have been included in the top 25, dating back to the 2004 season.
Caldwell was 22nd in the final poll of 2005 after finishing the season
40-11.
Cougars' head coach Dean Johnson returns all but one player from last
year's squad, including first team all-CACC and all-Northeast Region
performers Amy Coker (Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville), Anna Dahl
(Lindenwold, NJ/Camden Catholic), Katie Jackson (Pennsville,
NJ/Pennsville) and Jessica Saunders (Glen Burnie, MD/Archbishop
Spaulding), pictured. The two-time defending CACC regular-season and
tournament champions have gone 85-18 over the past two seasons.
"Being ranked is a nice honor, especially since we have basically the same
team as last season," Johnson said. "The fact that we've been ranked among
the top 25 teams in the nation for so long speaks volumes about the players
we have in our program. But we have several players who played in the
Women's College World Series in 2004, and their goal is to make it there
again this season."
The Cougars kick off the season in Kissimmee, Fla., at the Rebel Games on
March 18. Their first home game at Caldwell Field is March 25 against Nyack
College.
