JACKSON, D'AMICO NAMED TO ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT THIRD TEAM

CALDWELL,
N.J. - Caldwell College softball players Katie Jackson (Pennsville,
NJ/Pennsville) and Gina D'Amico (Turnersville, NJ/Washington Twp.)
were selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 2 third team in
voting by the College Sports Information Directors of America, the
organization announced. Nominees for the Academic
All-District teams, which are selected by CoSIDA members, must be at least a
sophomore with a grade-point average of 3.2 or better and be a starter or
significant reserve.
Jackson, left, who will graduate this Sunday with a degree in accounting,
received Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference all-Academic honors last
spring for maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 of higher. A
four-time all-CACC and all-Northeast Region first-team selection, Jackson
was named the 2006 CACC Player of the Year after leading the Cougars in
batting (.386), hits (54), doubles (17), home runs (nine) and runs batted in
(28). She finished her career with 189 hits, 19 homers and 108 RBIs while
posting a career batting average of .377.
D'Amico,
right, is majoring in both education and social studies at Caldwell College.
The senior shortstop ranked second on the team behind Jackson in batting
(.314), hits (42), doubles (12) and RBIs (26). For her career, D'Amico
collected 138 hits and 71 RBIs while playing in 188 games for the Cougars.
Selected to the CACC all-Tournament team three times, D'Amico also earned
CACC all-Academic accolades in 2005.
Jackson and D'Amico are a part of a senior class that captured three CACC
crowns, won a Northeast Region championship in 2004 and compiled a record of
151-54 over four seasons. In 2006, the Cougars, coached by Dean Johnson,
advanced to the Northeast Region Tournament for the third straight season
and finished the year with a record of 36-17.
