12-12-05
CALDWELL, N.J. - Five softball standouts will join the Caldwell
College softball program beginning in the fall of 2006. The group includes
local product Danielle Genovese of Livingston, N.J., catcher/infielder
Brittni Frantellizzi of Binghamton, N.Y., catcher/infielder Kyrie
Timbrook of Los Gatos, Calif., pitcher Jessica Ouderkirk of
Syracuse, N.Y., and outfielder Sydney Day of Houston, Tex.
"We are very happy to have such an outstanding group of student-athletes
join our program," said Cougars' head coach Dean Johnson. "They are
all excellent students, and we feel they will help our team maintain the
kind of success we have had in the past."
Genovese is a three-time all-Essex County and all-Iron Hills Conference
infielder at Livingston High School, where she is also an honor student. As
a junior, Genovese led Livingston to a 24-6 record and was named to the
Star-Ledger all-Essex County first team. In three seasons with the
Lancers, she has accumulated 103 hits. She plays for the Livingston
Lightning in the summer.
Frantellizzi is a two-time Louisville Slugger/NFCA all-East Region selection
and was named to the New York all-State first team as a sophomore and junior
at Susquehanna Valley High School. A member of the varsity softball team
since the eighth grade, Frantellizzi helped the Sabers finish 25-2 and
capture the 2005 Class A state championship. She plays for the Conklin
Raiders, the same summer team that produced current Cougars Stacy
Falkowski (Horseheads, NY), Carrie Flasphaler (Horseheads, NY)
and Alyssa Speno (Waterloo, NY).
Timbrook follows former Cougars' standout Danielle Guerra as native
Californians who have played catcher at Caldwell. Timbrook, who has earned
first-team all-Santa Clara Valley Athletic League honors three times, batted
.389 as a junior at Los Gatos High School. In 2004, Timbrook was named the
league's most valuable defensive player and received honorable mention
all-Mercury News by the San Jose Mercury News. She plays her summer
softball with the West Bay Nuggets Gold.
Ouderkirk has been chosen to the Section III Class B All-League first team
three times while being named the league's pitcher of the year as a
sophomore at Westhill High School. She also was named third-team all-Central
New York in 2004. Ouderkirk plays for the Rochester Lady Lions summer team.
Day is a four-year varsity player at Stratford High School, where she earned
all-District first-team honors as a sophomore and junior. Day, who also
plays shortstop, is a member of the Texas Connection summer team.
The Cougars have compiled a record of 85-18 over the past two seasons,
winning two Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference titles and one NCAA
Division II Northeast Region crown during that span.
