SAUNDERS CHOSEN CACC PITCHER OF THE WEEK

CALDWELL,
N.J. - Caldwell College senior Jessica Saunders (Glen Burnie,
MD/Archbishop Spaulding) was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate
Conference Pitcher of the Week for the week ending Apr. 2, the conference
announced today. Saunders pitched four complete games last week, winning
three and helping the Cougars improve to 14-8 on the season.
Saunders struck out 39 batters while walking just six in 29.0 innings,
allowing 19 hits and five earned runs in four games. She started off the
week with a two-hit shutout of Post University on Mar. 28, then
held
Queens College to six hits and two runs in a 5-2 victory in eight innings.
After losing a 2-1 decision to Dominican College on Apr. 1, Saunders fanned
a season-high 13 batters to lead the Cougars to a 5-2 win over
regionally-ranked New Haven on Apr. 2.
A first team all-CACC and all-Northeast Region selection in 2005, Saunders
received the conference's weekly award twice last season. She has a record
of 6-3 with an earned run average of 1.46, and has 72 strikeouts in 62 1/3
innings pitched this season.
Saunders and the Cougars return to action on Wednesday, Apr. 5, with a CACC
doubleheader against Philadelphia University. The first game is scheduled to
begin at 3:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
