CALDWELL SOFTBALL RECEIVES TOP SPOT IN CACC PRESEASON POLL

N.J. - The Caldwell College softball team was chosen to capture its fourth
consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference title, according to the
CACC 2007 Preseason Coaches Poll as voted on by the league's 12 head
coaches. The Cougars, who are ranked 21st nationally in the NFCA Division II
Preseason Poll, received five first-place votes and 136 points to edge
Dominican College, which had 134 points.
Last season the Cougars went 37-16 overall and 19-3 in the conference en
route to capturing their third straight CACC Tournament and regular season
titles. The 2006 tournament championship gave Caldwell a spot in the NCAA
Northeast Region Tournament for the third consecutive year. The Cougars
return seniors Stacy Falkowski (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads),
Danielle Payne (Jamesburg, NJ/Monroe Twp.), Jackie Velardi
(Belleville, NJ/Belleville) and Desiree Wilson (Gloucester City,
NJ/Gloucester Catholic), all of whom have been a part of Caldwell teams that
have gone 56-6 in conference play during their careers.
Head coach Dean Johnson, who has compiled a record of 335-160 in 12
seasons at Caldwell, has added a talented group of seven newcomers to 10
returnees, including junior infielder Nicole Bodrog (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape),
a second team all-CACC selection in 2006, and junior outfielder Carrie
Flasphaler (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads), who was an all-CACC second team
honoree in 2005.
The Cougars will open the 2007 season in Kissimmee, Fla., at the Rebel Games
on Mar. 16, with the first CACC contest on Saturday, Mar. 24 against
Goldey-Beacom College at Caldwell Field.
