CALDWELL SOFTBALL RANKS 13TH NATIONALLY IN GPA

CALDWELL,
N.J. - The Caldwell College softball team had the 13th-highest team
grade-point average among all NCAA Division II programs during the 2005-06
academic year, according to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. The
Cougars, coached by Dean Johnson, posted a team GPA of 3.401, the
highest GPA in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and the Northeast
Region. Additionally, 10 players had a GPA of 3.50 or higher to earn NFCA
Scholar-Athlete honors.
The Cougar softball team has a tradition of academic achievement along with
success on the field. In 1996, Caldwell had the highest GPA among all NAIA
institutions. In 2004, the team received an award from the NCAA for having
the highest team GPA of the eight participants at the Women's College World
Series. Last year the Cougars ranked 29th in NCAA Division II and had nine
players achieve NFCA Scholar-Athlete status.
The student-athletes who earned Scholar-Athlete honors in 2005-06 are Amy
Coker, Gina D'Amico, Sara Neely, Jessica Saunders,
senior Stacy Falkowski (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads), pictured, juniors
Nicole Bodrog (Mt. Laural, NJ/Lenape), Stephanie Brodo
(Belleville, NJ/Belleville), Carrie Flasphaler (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads)
and Meghan Johnston (Kirkland, WA/Lake Washington), and sophomore
Cecilia Goforth (Houston, TX/St. Agnes Academy).
Last season the Cougars went 37-16 and captured their third consecutive CACC
regular-season and tournament titles en route to making their third straight
appearance in the NCAA Northeast Region Tournament.
