KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Caldwell College softball team, ranked 12th nationally, won a pair of games against Augustana (S.D.) College, 8-5 and 7-2 Tuesday morning at the Osceola County Softball Complex as part of the Rebel Spring Games. Junior Nicole Bodrog (Mt. In the first game, Caldwell scored five runs in the first inning to take a commanding lead early. Junior Alyssa Speno (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, scoring the game's first run. Junior Carrie Flasphaler (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) followed with an RBI single, then freshman Brittni Frantellizzi (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) tripled down the left field line to clear the bases and give Caldwell a 5-0 lead.

The Cougars scored another run in the third on a single by sophomore Stephanie Brodo (Belleville, NJ/St. Mary's) that plated Flasphaler for a 6-0 lead. Augustana put a pair of runs on the board in the bottom of the fifth. But the Cougars restored the six-run advantage in the top of the sixth, when Bodrog singled home Frantellizzi, then later scored on a single by freshman Danielle Genovese (Livingston, NJ/Livingston). The Vikings scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh, including two on a single by Jessica Cooper. But it was not enough, as Caldwell hung on for the win.

Sophomore Ceci Goforth (Houston, TX/St. Agnes Academy) picked up her second victory in her second start of the season, allowing five runs, three earned, on nine hits in six-plus innings. Senior Nicole Webb (Toms River, NJ/Manchester Twp.) recorded three outs in the seventh for her first save of the year. Senior Jackie Velardi (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) had a pair of hits in the win for Caldwell. Cooper went the distance in the circle for Augustana, allowing seven hits and eight runs in defeat.

In game two, the Cougars used a big second inning to take control of the game. After Augustana scored a run in the top of first inning, Caldwell took advantage of three errors to score five runs in the bottom of the second. Bodrog singled home two runs and later scored on a single by Velardi, left. Genovese and Brodo also had RBIs in the inning. Speno scored her third run of the day on a groundout by freshman Alicia Langone (Kendall Park, NJ/South Brunswick) in the third to make the score 6-1. Then sophomore Kim Aguirre (Highland, CA/San Gorgonio) hit a RBI single in the sixth that plated Bodrog for a 7-1 advantage. The Vikings scored an unearned run on two Caldwell errors in the seventh to make the final score 7-2 Cougars.

Sophomore pitcher Kristen de la Campa (Whitman, MA/Whitman Hanson) scattered three hits while allowing one run in six innings of work to improve to 2-1 on the season. Afton Murray pitched all six inning for the Vikings in the loss.
