CALDWELL,
N.J. - The 12th ranked Caldwell College softball team dropped an 8-6
decision to Bloomfield College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference
game Wednesday afternoon at Caldwell Field. Senior Stacy Falkowski (Horseheads,
NJ/Horseheads) hit one of three home runs for the Cougars, who fall to 19-7
overall and 9-3 in the conference, while the Deacons improve to 10-12, 4-6
CACC.
The game was supposed to be the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader but
was postponed due to darkness until Wednesday after the Cougars' 10-inning
7-6 victory.
Junior Nicole Bodrog (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) got things started in
the right direction for the Cougars with a lead-off home run in the bottom
of the first. Bodrog leads the Cougars with four homers this season.
Bloomfield tied the game with a run in the top of the second, then took the
lead on a single by Vickie Berardi in the third. In the bottom of the third
with Bodrog and Falkowski on base, freshman Brittni Frantellizzi
(Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) hit a three-run homer, her second of the
year, to give the Cougars a 4-2 lead.
But five runs in the top of the fourth swung momentum to Bloomfield, who
received RBIs from Berardi, Brianne Moore, Nicole Cagnino and Sara Locke in
the inning. Another run in the fifth made it 8-4 Bloomfield before a
run-scoring single by freshman Alicia Langone (Kendall Park, NJ/South
Brunswick) in the bottom of the fifth cut the deficit to 8-5. Falkowski led
off the seventh with her third home run of the season, but reliever Erin
Covell retired the three batters she faced to end the game.
Caldwell pounded out 14 hits, including three each from Frantellizzi and
junior Alyssa Speno (Waterloo, NJ/Waterloo). Senior Nicole Webb
(Toms River, NJ/Manchester Twp.) started and pitched 3 1/3 innings to take
the loss and drop to 9-5. Bloomfield's Fauna Ryerson earned the win after
going six innings and allowing 14 hits and six runs. Moore went 4 for 4 at
the plate with three doubles, two runs and two RBIs to lead the Deacons.
The Cougars are scheduled to host No. 21 C.W. Post on Thursday, Apr. 12,
beginning at 3:30 p.m.
