CWP 9, CC 1
CWP 2, CC 0
CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games to No. 9 C.W. Post, 9-1 and 2-0 Monday afternoon at Caldwell College. The Cougars, ranked 16th nationally, managed just seven hits off the Pioneers' pitching on the day, including two from freshman Danielle Genovese (Livingston, NJ/Livingston). Caldwell is now 26-12 on the season, while the Pioneers improve to 33-11.

C.W. Post scored twice in the second inning of the first game on RBI singles from Alyssa Gerrish and Katie Fisher to take a 2-0 lead. Melissa Hippo's two-run double in the third made it 4-0. Then in the top of the sixth, pinch-hitter Shannon Kulnis hit a two-run home run to spark a four-run inning that put the Pioneers ahead 8-0. The Cougars scored their only run of the day in the bottom of the sixth, when junior Nicole Bodrog (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) doubled, then scored on a single by Genovese.

C.W. Post's Samantha Yodowitz allowed five hits and one run in seven innings to improve to 22-4. Sophomore Kristen de la Campa (Whitman, MA/Whitman Hanson) pitched 5 1/3 innings for her first loss since Mar. 16.

The second game remained scoreless until the top of the fifth on an RBI double by Kulnis. The Pioneers added another run in the sixth, when Gerrish's single brought home Amanda Aiello. The Cougars' best chance to score came in the bottom of the fifth. Junior Carrie Flasphaler (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) hit a one-out double, then advanced to third when freshman Kyrie Timbrook (Los Gatos, CA/Los Gatos) reached on an error. With runners at the corners, Pioneers' pitcher Danielle Stallone retired the next two batters on groundouts to end the threat.

Stallone (5-4) gave up just two hits while striking out two and walking three in a complete-game shutout. Senior Nicole Webb (Toms River, NJ/Manchester Twp.) turned in a strong performance in defeat, allowing nine hits and two runs (one earned) in seven innings.

The Cougars return to action on Tuesday, Apr. 24, when they play a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader at Post University. The games begin at 3:00 p.m. in Waterbury, Conn.
