KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Caldwell College softball team split a doubleheader with the University of Minnesota-Duluth, winning the first game 3-1 before falling 7-3 in Game 2 Sunday afternoon at the Rebel Spring Games. Sophomore pitcher Kristen de la Campa (Whitman, MA/Whitman Hanson) went the distance in the victory, allowing just three hits and one run. The day's results give the 12th-ranked Cougars a 4-2 record on the season, while the Bulldogs are now 9-9.

UMD got on the scoreboard first in Game 1 with a run in the top of the first. Caldwell answered in the bottom half of the first when senior Stacy Falkowski (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) hit a two-run single to put the Cougars ahead 2-1. Caldwell added an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth when a double by freshman Alicia Langone (Kendall Park, NJ/South Brunswick) brought home junior Alyssa Speno (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) for a 3-1 advantage.

De la Campa gave up hits in the first, second and fourth innings before shutting down the Bulldogs over the last three innings for her first win of the season. Senior Jackie Velardi (Belleville, NJ/Belleville), junior Nicole Bodrog (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) and freshman Danielle Genovese (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) also had hits for Caldwell.

In the second game, the Cougars jumped out to a 3-0 lead with three unearned runs in the top of the second inning. Four errors in the inning allowed junior Carrie Flasphaler (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads), freshman Sydney Day (Houston, TX/Stratford) and Langone score runs. But the Bulldogs came back with four runs in the bottom of the second on four hits, including a two-run double by Nikki Jensen. UMD added two runs in the third and an unearned run in the fourth to make it 7-4.

Senior pitcher Nicole Webb (Toms River, NJ/Manchester Twp.) started and allowed seven hits and six runs in 2 2/3 innings to take the loss (2-1). Flasphaler, Velardi and freshman Kyrie Timbrook (Los Gatos, CA/Los Gatos) each had two hits.

The Cougars play a doubleheader with Augustana (S.D.) College on Tuesday, Mar. 20 in the team's final day at the Rebel Spring Games.
