CALDWELL COLLEGE TO HOST CACC SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT

4-29-08
CALDWELL, N.J. - The 2008 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Softball Tournament will be held at Caldwell College, starting Thursday, May 1 at Caldwell Field. Caldwell, which finished second in the CACC regular-season standings with a 19-5 record (30-20 overall), will be looking for its fourth CACC Tournament title in five years. The winner of this week’s tournament earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Northeast Region Tournament.

The Cougars enter the tournament having won seven of their last eight games, including four straight at home, where they are 15-5 this season. The top seed is Georgian Court University (36-12, 21-2 CACC), the defending CACC Tournament champions and the 20th-ranked team in the nation, according to the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Top 25 Poll. Dominican College (28-22, 18-6 CACC) is seeded third, while Holy Family University (20-20, 16-8 CACC) is fourth and Wilmington University (29-17, 16-8 CACC) is fifth. The sixth and final spot goes to the University of the Sciences (15-21, 12-12 CACC).

In last season's CACC Tournament, held at Georgian Court, the Cougars lost to the host Lions in the final game, ending Caldwell's string of three straight tournament crowns. The two teams split a doubleheader during the regular season earlier this year.
