CALDWELL SOFTBALL ADVANCES TO NCAA NORTHEAST REGIONAL

N.J. - The Caldwell College softball team will participate in the NCAA
Division II Northeast Region Tournament, which will be hosted by C.W. Post
University beginning Wednesday, May 7. The Cougars (33-20), who received the
Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference's automatic bid by winning the CACC
Tournament this past weekend, is seeded fourth and will face fifth-seeded
Georgian Court University on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. Caldwell defeated the
Lions twice in the CACC Tournament to win the championship.
The Cougars, coached by Dean Johnson, qualified for their fourth NCAA
Regional in five years by winning three straight games to win the CACC
Tournament. Senior third-baseman Nicole Bodrog (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape),
pictured, batted .500 with six runs and two runs batted in to receive the
tournament's Most Valuable Player award. Joining Bodrog on the
all-Tournament Team were junior Gina Capardi (West Caldwell,
NJ/Caldwell), sophomores Brittni Frantellizzi (Binghamton,
NY/Susquehanna Valley) and Danielle Genovese (Livingston,
NJ/Livingston) and freshman Brittany Pulido (Ojai, CA/Nordhoff).
This season, Caldwell has posted a 7-6 record against the other teams in the
regional, including a 3-1 mark against Georgian Court. The Cougars took two
out of three meetings from eighth-seeded New Haven, split doubleheaders with
top-seeded C.W. Post and No. 7 NYIT, and were swept by third-seeded Adelphi.
The other teams in the tournament are Le Moyne, seeded second, and Bryant,
seeded sixth.
The winners of the eight region tournaments will earn a spot in the NCAA
Division II Women's College World Series, held May 15-19 in Houston, Tex.
