CAPARDI, PULIDO RECEIVE CACC WEEKLY HONORS

4-1-08
CALDWELL, N.J. - Caldwell College junior infielder Gina Capardi (West Caldwell, NJ/Caldwell) was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Softball Player of the Week for the week ending Mar. 30, the league announced today. Additionally, freshman pitcher Brittany Pulido (Ojai, CA/Nordhoff) was selected the CACC Rookie of the Week. The pair helped the Cougars go 5-1 last week to improve to 9-7 on the season.

Capardi, left, batted .588 (10-for-17) with nine runs batted in, 10 runs scored, two triples and a home run in six games. She collected two hits in five of the six games, and scored three runs twice. In an 8-6 victory at Pace University on Mar. 26, Capardi broke a 6-6 tie with a two-run homer in the top of the six for what proved to be the game-winning runs. A transfer from Fordham University, Capardi leads the Cougars in hitting with a .490 average in her first season at Caldwell.

Last week's CACC Pitcher of the Week, Pulido was 2-0 with an earned run average of 1.58 in four appearances. She pitched a three-hit shutout in a 4-0 victory over Nyack College on Mar. 25, then blanked Chestnut Hill College on five hits in four innings for a 10-0 win on Mar. 29. In Caldwell's 8-6 win over Pace, Pulido pitched two scoreless innings to earn her first career save. In 17 2/3 innings last week, she struck out 14 batters while walking none. This is the second time in three weeks that Pulido has been chosen Rookie of the Week, having earned the honor on Mar. 17.

The Cougars play a CACC doubleheader at Dominican College on Wednesday, Apr. 2, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
