Del. - The Caldwell College softball team dominated Goldey-Beacom College in
a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader, winning 9-0 and 14-2
Thursday afternoon at Sawin Field. With the wins, the Cougars (17-11
overall) remain unbeaten in the conference with their fourth CACC sweep of
the season. The LIghtning drop to 7-16, 2-12 CACC. Sophomore Kyrie
Timbrook (Los Gatos, CA/Los Gatos) went 5-for-6 with three runs and five
runs batted in to lead Caldwell at the plate.
In the first game, the Cougars went up 2-0 in the top of the second, when
freshman Annie Forte (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) doubled home
senior Nicole Bodrog (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape), then scored on a single
by Timbrook. Junior Gina Capardi (West Caldwell, NJ/Caldwell) singled
home a run in the third, and Bodrog drove in another in the fourth for a 4-0
lead. Then in the fifth, sophomore Brittni Frantellizzi (Binghamton,
NY/Susquehanna Valley) brought home Capardi with a single and later scored
along with junior Kim Aguirre (Highland, CA/San Gorgonio) on a
two-run single by senior Carrie Flasphaler (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads).
Timbrook's two-run single in the sixth closed out the scoring.
Freshman pitcher Brittany Pulido (Ojai, CA/Nordhoff) kept the
Lightning scoreless over five innings, allowing four hits while striking out
four to improve to 9-3.
The second game was more of the same, with the Cougars recording 16 hits
while scoring a season-high 14 runs. Caldwell broke open the game with a
four-run fifth inning that made the score 9-1. Timbrook had a two-run single
and also scored on a single by Flasphaler. Senior Alyssa Speno
(Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) also drove in a run in the inning. Then in the
sixth, the Cougars put five runs on the board, with Flasphaler and freshman
Patti Garofolo (Collegeville, PA/Spring Ford) each recording two-run
hits. Freshman Lisa Federico (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) also
knocked in a run in the sixth. Flasphaler, Garofolo and Timbrook each had
three hits in the game, with Flasphaler recording four RBIs.
Forte (2-2) went the distance and earned the win, allowing two runs on six
hits and three walks while fanning five.
Next up for Caldwell is another CACC doubleheader with Philadelphia
University on Saturday, Apr. 12. The games are set to start at 1:00 p.m. at
Caldwell Field.
