CALDWELL SOFTBALL ANNOUNCES RECRUITING CLASS

4-18-08
CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College softball team will add a recruiting class of eight student-athletes for the 2008-09 academic year, head coach Dean Johnson announced. Outfielders Katie Margiotta (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) and Kelly Ryan (Woonsocket, RI /Mount St. Charles), catcher Marisa Tamez (Fountain Valley, CA/Fountain Valley) and pitcher Juliette Wilson (Dallas, OR/West Salem) signed National Letters Of Intent to attend Caldwell College during the early signing period in November. Additionally, Rebecca Ashley (Bellingham, MA/Mount St. Charles Acad.), Korin Ditulli (Hyde Park, NY/Roosevelt), Samantha Mayer (Neptune, NJ/Neptune) and Kaitlyn McFarlane (Secaucus, NJ/Immaculate Conception) also will be joining the team next fall.

"This is a very talented group, and we're excited to have these student-athletes join the program," Johnson said. "We've been fortunate to have attracted the interest of student-athletes from all over the country, and this class has six different states represented. We're looking forward to this group continuing the academic and athletic success the program has had over the years."

Margiotta earned Group 4 all-State second team honors from the Star-Ledger as a junior at Washington Township High School after batting .466 with 20 runs and 10 stolen bases. She also was named to the all-South Jersey, all-County and all-Conference first teams in 2007. Also a standout soccer player, Margiotta was chosen to the all-South Jersey second team this past fall. She plays her summer softball with the Jersey Nightmare Gold.

Ryan was a second team all-State and first team all-Division selection as a junior at Mount St. Charles High School. Last spring she led Mount St. Charles in batting, homeruns, runs batted in, on-base percentage and fielding percentage en route to being named her team's Most Valuable Player. A two-time Providence Journal Player of the Week, Ryan also excelled as a pitcher, posting an earned-run average of 1.29 while striking out 130 batters in 98 innings. Her summer league team is the Rhode Island Thunder Gold.

Tamez follows in the footsteps of Danielle Guerra and sophomore Kyrie Timbrook (Los Gatos, CA/Los Gatos) as catchers who have come to Caldwell College from California. Tamez received all-Sunset League honors as a junior while earning her team's Coach's Award her sophomore year. A four-year varsity player at Fountain Valley High School, she plays for the California Shilos Gold summer team.

Wilson is a first team all-Central Valley Conference pitcher from West Salem (Ore.) High School. During her junior year, Wilson tossed two no-hitters while posting a record of 17-10 to help West Salem earn a No. 8 final ranking in Oregon's largest class. This season, Wilson has started where she left off, as she hurled another no-hitter in her first outing of the season. Wilson pitches for the Oregon Slammers Gold in the summer.

The Cougars, who captured a share of their fourth consecutive regular-season Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference title last year, have three seniors on this year's team in outfielders Carrie Flasphaler (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) and Alyssa Speno (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo), and infielder Nicole Bodrog (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape).
