COUGARS SPLIT KEY CACC DOUBLEHEADER WITH WILMINGTON
4-19-08
CC 1, WU 0 (8 inn.)
WU 7, CC 5
NEW
CASTLE, Del. - The Caldwell College softball team
took one of two games of a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference
doubleheader at Wilmington University, winning the first game 1-0 in eight
innings before falling 7-5 in the second game Saturday afternoon at Asbury
Field. The results give the Cougars a 12-4 record in the conference (22-18
overall), while the Wildcats (26-14) are 13-5 in the CACC.
The Cougars scored the only run of Game 1 in the top of the eighth, when
senior Nicole Bodrog (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) led off with a single,
advanced to second on an error and scored on a single by junior Gina
Capardi (West Caldwell, NJ/Caldwell). Freshman pitcher Brittany
Pulido (Ojai, CA/Nordhoff) handcuffed the Wildcats, allowing just four
hits in eight innings for her sixth shutout of the season. Katie Turner gave
up one earned run on five hits in 7 1/3 innings for Wilmington.
Wilmington took a 4-0 lead early in Game 2 before Caldwell scored runs in
the fourth and fifth innings on RBIs from Bodrog and fellow senior Alyssa
Speno (Waterloo, NJ/Waterloo), pictured. Wilmington answered with three
runs in the bottom of the fifth to go ahead 7-2. A run-scoring single by
sophomore Danielle Genovese (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) and a two-run
homer from Capardi in the sixth cut the deficit to 7-5, but it would not be
enough to avoid the split.
Pulido started the second game as well, giving up five hits and four runs,
one earned, in four innings to fall to 11-6 on the season. Kim Lawrence
earned the win for the Wildcats after allowing five runs on six hits and
four walks in 5 2/3 innings.
The Cougars play league-leading Georgian Court University on Monday, Apr. 21
in a CACC doubleheader in Lakewood, N.J.
