CALDWELL SOFTBALL RECEIVES VOTES IN FINAL NFCA NATIONAL POLL
6-1-09
CALDWELL, N.J. -
The Caldwell College softball team received votes in the final National
Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Top 25 Poll, released today. The
Cougars, who finished the season with an overall record of 37-18-2, received
seven points in the poll.
This past season the Cougars, coached by Dean Johnson, advanced to
the NCAA East Region Tournament after placing second in the Central Atlantic
Collegiate Conference during the regular season and in the post-season
tournament. Caldwell advanced to the final day of the East Regional against
No. 7 Le Moyne College, only to lose to the eventual region champion
Dolphins. Senior Gina Capardi (West Caldwell,
NJ/Caldwell) was selected to the NFCA Division II All-East Region first
team, while junior Kyrie Timbrook (Los Gatos, CA/Los Gatos),
sophomore Brittany Pulido (Ojai, CA/Nordhoff) and freshman Kelly
Ryan (Woonsocket, RI/Mt. St. Charles Acad.) were included on the
All-Region second team. Junior Danielle Genovese (Livingston,
NJ/Livingston) made the Daktronics all-East Region second team along with
Capardi and Timbrook.
The Cougars, who have advanced to the NCAA Regional five times in the last
six years, lose three seniors from this past year's squad: Capardi, pitcher
Kristen de la Campa (Whitman, MA/Whitman Hanson) and infielder Kim
Aguirre (Highland, CA/San Gorgonio). Caldwell has appeared in the NFCA final
national rankings five times since 2004, when the Cougars finished the year
ranked ninth after winning the Northeast Region title and advancing to the
Women's College World Series.
