LAKEWOOD, N.J. - The Caldwell College softball team lost to Dowling College, 9-4, before tying 10th-ranked Kutztown University, 5-5 in six innings Sunday afternoon at the Georgian Court Tournament. The Cougars are now 14-9-2 on the season.

In the game against Dowling, Caldwell came back from a 3-0 deficit to tie the game with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Junior Brittni Frantellizzi (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley), pictured, had a two-run single, while freshman Kelly Ryan (Woonsocket, RI/Mt. St. Charles Acad.) singled home Frantellizzi. But the long ball would haunt the Cougars in the top of the sixth, as Stephanie Compitello hit a three-run homer and Jackie Hannan blasted a two-run shot, all with two outs, to give Dowling an 8-3 lead. The Golden Lions (18-13) added another run in the seventh. Freshman Katie Margiotta (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), who tallied three hits in the game, had an RBI single in the seventh.

Sophomore Brittany Pulido (Ojai, CA/Nordhoff) took the loss and fell to 5-2 on the season, while Krystil Hofmann earned a complete-game victory for Dowling.

Against Kutztown (33-6-1), the Cougars again fell behind after the Golden Bears score three times in the top of the third and once in the fourth for a 4-0 lead. In the bottom of the fifth, junior Danielle Genovese (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) led off with a double, then came home on a Capardi triple. Junior Kyrie Timbrook (Los Gatos, CA/Los Gatos) plated Capardi with a grounder to make the score 4-2. Still in the fifth, sophomore Annie Forte (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) scored on an outfield error to cut the deficit to 4-3.

In the top of the sixth, Heather Hannum doubled home a run to give Kutztown a 5-3 lead. Caldwell answered in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run single by Timbrook that tied the game at 5-5. The Cougars had runners at first and second with one out, but could not score the go-ahead run. The umpires called the game after the sixth inning due to darkness. The tie is the second of the week for Caldwell and the second tie in the 15-year tenure of head coach Dean Johnson.

Freshman Kaitlyn McFarlane (Secaucus, NJ/Immaculate Conception) pitched all six innings for the Cougars, allowing five runs, four earned, on seven hits while walking one and striking out one. Caldwell pounded out 11 hits, two apiece from Ryan, Capardi and Genovese, but left 10 runners on base.

Caldwell hosts Dominican College in a single game on Monday, Apr. 6, beginning at 3:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
