BRISTOL, Penn. - The Caldwell College softball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader with Holy Family University, winning the first 10-1 in five innings before losing the second game, 6-1. The loss in Game 2 was the Cougars' first conference loss of the season and broke a string of 18 victories in CACC regular-season games dating back to last season. Caldwell is now 21-10-2 overall and 12-1 in league play, while the Tigers are 12-22, 5-5 CACC.

The Cougars took an early lead in Game 1 on a two-run homer by junior Kyrie Timbrook (Los Gatos, CA/Los Gatos) in the top of the first inning. Then in the second, Caldwell scored five runs on six hits and an error to lead 7-0. Junior Danielle Genovese (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) and sophomore Annie Forte (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) both had two-run singles in the inning. Senior Gina Capardi (West Caldwell, NJ/Caldwell) made it 10-0 with a three-run homer in the top of the third, her second home run of the season. The Tigers scored a run in the bottom of the third but would get no closer, as the game ended after five innings.

Sophomore pitcher Brittany Pulido (Ojai, CA/Nordhoff) allowed a run on six hits in five innings of work to improve to 9-2. She also struck out four and walked none, extending her streak of not allowing a walk to 29 consecutive innings. Capardi (left), Genovese and freshman Marisa Tamez (Fountain Valley, CA/Fountain Valley) recorded two hits apiece in the win.

In the second game, Forte put the Cougars ahead 1-0 with a solo home run to lead off the top of the second. Holy Family tied the game with a run in the bottom of the second, then scored five runs in the final three innings to hand Caldwell its first conference loss since Apr. 21 of last year. Sarah Marstellar went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in to lead the Tigers at the plate.

Holy Family pitcher Jody Searfoss gave up one run on five hits in a complete-game victory. Freshman Kaitlyn McFarlane (Secaucus, NJ/Immaculate Conception) started for Caldwell and allowed seven hits and four runs in 4 1/3 innings to take the loss.

The Cougars host Bloomfield College in a CACC doubleheader on Tuesday, Apr. 14. The first game starts at 3:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
