WATERBURY,
Conn. - The Caldwell College softball team won a pair of Central Atlantic
Collegiate Conference games against Post University by the identical scores
of 5-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Lamoy Field. The wins keep the Cougars
unbeaten in conference play at 11-0 while improving their overall record to
18-9-2. The Eagles are now 16-10 overall and 7-7 in the CACC.
In the first game, the Cougars scored a pair of runs in the top of the
first, including one on a single by junior Kyrie Timbrook (Los Gatos,
CA/Los Gatos), to take an early lead. After Post scored a run in the bottom
of the first, sophomore Patti Garofolo (Collegeville, PA/Springford)
came home on a grounder by Marisa Tamez (Fountain Valley, CA/Fountain
Valley) in the top of the second for a 3-1 Caldwell lead. Then in the
fourth, Tamez, pictured, and freshman Katie Margiotta (Sewell,
NJ/Washington Twp.) both drove in runs to put the Cougars on top 5-1.
Sophomore pitcher Brittany Pulido (Ojai, CA/Nordhoff) went the
distance and gave up just three hits and one run while striking out five to
improve to 7-2 on the season.
Caldwell scored early in the second game, as sophomore Annie Forte
(Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) singled home junior Danielle Genovese
(Livingston, NJ/Livingston) in the top of the first. A single by Tamez
in the second plated Garofolo for a 2-0 lead, then two more runs in the
fifth on a single by senior Gina Capardi (West Caldwell, NJ/Caldwell)
and a sacrifice fly from Forte made it 4-0. Post scored a run in the bottom
of the fifth, but the Cougars restored their four-run lead in the sixth when
Margiotta scored from third on a wild pitch.
Senior pitcher Kristen de la Campa (Whitman, MA/Whitman Hanson)
earned the win after giving up four hits and one run in 4 1/3 innings.
Freshman pitcher Kaitlyn McFarlane (Secaucus, NJ/Immaculate
Conception) picked up a save after pitching 2 2/3 scoreless innings of
relief.
The Cougars host Adelphi University on Thursday, Apr. 9. The non-conference
doubleheader is set to start at 3:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
