CALDWELL, N.J. - Caldwell College freshman Marisa Tamez (Fountain
Valley, CA/Fountain Valley) was chosen the Central Atlantic Collegiate
Conference Softball Player of the Week for the week ending Apr. 12, the
league announced Monday. Additionally, sophomore Brittany Pulido
(Ojai, CA/Nordhoff) was named the CACC Pitcher of the Week. The duo helped
the Cougars win all six of their games last week.
Tamez came through in the clutch for the Cougars in a come-from-behind
victory over Adelphi University on Apr. 9. With the Cougars trailing 8-7
with one out in the bottom of the seventh, Tamez hit a two-run single with
the bases loaded to give Caldwell a 9-8 win. The hit, combined with a
three-run home run by junior Kyrie Timbrook (Los Gatos, CA/Los
Gatos), completed a five-run seventh inning that began with the Cougars
trailing 8-4. Tamez, who was 3-for-3 with five runs batted in in that game,
also went 2-for-3 in a 5-0 victory over the Panthers in the first game. For
the week, Tamez batted .643 (9-for-14) with two doubles and nine RBI.
Pulido made four starts last week, going 3-0 with an earned run average of
0.61. She began the week with a complete-game, 4-1 victory at Pace on Apr.
7, matching her career best with eight strikeouts. In a 5-1 win against Post
on Apr. 8, Pulido allowed just three hits and one run while fanning five in
seven innings. Then in the first game against Adelphi, Pulido blanked the
Panthers on two hits with three strikeouts to win 5-0. Pulido did not walk a
batter in 23 innings last week while fanning 17. She currently is 9-2 with
an ERA of 1.38.
The Cougars host Bloomfield College on Tuesday, Apr. 14. The CACC
doubleheader begins at 3:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
