COUGARS MOVE TO FOURTH IN EAST REGION SOFTBALL RANKINGS

4-22-09
CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College softball team moved up one spot to No. 4 in the NCAA Division II East Region rankings, released today. The Cougars, who were ranked fifth in last week's rankings, are 29-11-2 on the season after winning nine of their 11 games last week. Additionally, Caldwell received votes in the latest NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll.

Caldwell stumbled early in the week, splitting a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader at Holy Family on Monday and losing one game to Bloomfield College on Tuesday. After a rainout Wednesday, the Cougars proceeded to sweep four consecutive doubleheaders, including conference opponents Nyack College, Felician College and Chestnut Hill College. On Sunday Caldwell worked overtime to beat American International, winning 2-1 in 12 innings before taking the second game 8-5 in nine innings.

Junior Kyrie Timbrook (Los Gatos, CA/Los Gatos) was named the CACC Co- Player of the Week after batting .417 with 10 doubles, two home runs and 10 runs batted in. Senior Gina Capardi (West Caldwell, NJ/Caldwell), pictured, drove in 12 runs on the week, and junior Danielle Genovese (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) scored a team-best 14 runs. The pitching also was solid, as sophomore Brittany Pulido (Ojai, CA/Nordhoff) and freshman Kaitlyn McFarlane (Secaucus, NJ/Immaculate Conception) each won three games, while sophomore Annie Forte (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) went 2-0 with an earned run average of 0.72.

Caldwell continues its schedule with a non-conference doubleheader at the University of New Haven on Thursday, Apr. 23.
