The loss marks the second year in a row that the Cougars have been eliminated from the CACC Tournament with a defeat in double-overtime. The two teams battled to a scoreless tie until late in the second half. Last season, the Cougars lost in the CACC semifinals to Philadelphia University, 2-1 with just 36 seconds left in the second overtime period.

box score
BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - A goal by senior forward Nicole Laureigh (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Twp.) in the 84th minute lifted the Caldwell College women's soccer team to a 3-2 triumph over Bloomfield College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Tuesday afternoon at Watsessing Park. The win is the first of the season for the Cougars (1-3) and gives them a 1-0 mark in CACC play. The defeat drops the Lady Deacons to 2-3 overall, 0-2 CACC.

Stacey Jones put Bloomfield on the board less than two minutes into the game when she knocked home a rebound off a shot from Jerrica Lavooy. The Cougars answered just one minute and 28 second later. Junior defender Eliza Urciuoli (Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) one-timed a shot off a cleared corner kick and found the back of the net for a 1-1 tie. Jones put Bloomfield back on top in the 12th minute with a goal off a cross from Michelle Cadena. Again Caldwell responded when junior forward Jackie D'Orsaneo (Bowie, MD/Bowie) put away the rebound from a header by junior midfielder Morgan Frankenfield (Coplay, PA/Whitehall Coplay) to knot the score at 2-2 in the 31st minute.

The game remained tied until the 84th minute. Sophomore midfielder Nikki D'Orsaneo (Bowie, MD/Bowie) found Laureigh with a pass at the top of the penalty area. Laureigh, pictured, beat Bloomfield goalkeeper Kira Wagar with a shot from 22 yards out for the game-winner and her first goal of the season.

Junior goalkeeper Lauren Hoenig (Howell, NJ/Howell) tallied seven saves in goal for Caldwell, while Wagar finished with eight saves for the Lady Deacons, who were out-shot 24-12.

CALDWELL, N.J. - A goal by Dianna Geneva in the 97th minute game Molloy College a 2-1 overtime victory over Caldwell College in a non-conference women's soccer match Thursday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The Cougars, playing their first home game of the season, remain winless on the year at 0-3, while the Lions improve to 2-4.

Molloy opened the scoring less than seven minutes into the game, when Nicole Valentine headed in a cross from Kaitlynn Kelly for a 1-0 lead. Caldwell tied the game in the 32nd minute. A long throw-in by junior midfielder Morgan Frankenfield (Coplay, PA/Whitehall Coplay), pictured, was headed over Lions' goalkeeper Christina Aquilon and into the goal by junior forward Jackie D'Orsaneo (Bowie, MD/Bowie). Molloy had a golden opportunity to take the lead in the 72nd minute, when a handball was called in the Cougars' penalty area, giving the Lions a penalty kick. But freshman goalkeeper Kristina Cabales (Islip Terrace, NY/East Islip) parried the ball over the crossbar to keep the game tied at 1-1.

In overtime, Geneva got on the end of a corner kick by Kylie Barbosa and headed the ball into the goal for the game-winner. Aquilon finished with four saves in goal for the Lions. Cabales entered the game at halftime and recorded three saves, while junior Lauren Hoenig (Howell, NJ/Howell) made one save in the first half.

Caldwell hosts defending Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference champion Georgian Court University on Saturday, Sept. 12 in the Cougars' conference opener. Game time is set for 12:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.

COUGAR WOMEN'S SOCCER TABBED FOR FOURTH IN CACC PRESEASON POLL

8-13-09
CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College women's soccer team was predicted to finish fourth this season by the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference 2009 Preseason Poll, the league announced today. Last season the Cougars tied for fourth place with a conference record of 7-3-1 and advanced to the semifinals of the CACC Tournament. Philadelphia and Georgian Court, last year’s CACC Tournament finalists, tied for first in this year’s poll, which was voted on by the conference’s 13 head coaches.

Caldwell, coached by Nate Guagliardi, went 8-11-1 overall in 2008 after posting a 5-14 mark in 2007. The improvement earned Guagliardi CACC Coach of the Year honors. The Cougars defeated Nyack in the quarterfinals for the program’s second CACC Tournament win in 11 years. Philadelphia eliminated Caldwell in the semifinals with a 2-1 double-overtime decision.

Among the returnees is sophomore Nikki D’Orsaneo (Bowie, MD/Bowie), who received all-CACC honorable mention after an outstanding freshman season. D’Orsaneo is the team’s leading returning scorer, having totaled six points on a goal and four assists in 2008. The two seniors on this year’s team are forward Nicole Laureigh (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Twp.) and midfielder Brianna Diaz (Chili, NY/Churchville-Chili).

Georgian Court, who won the CACC Tournament last year, and Philadelphia each received 160 points, with the Rams garnering seven first-place votes and the Lions receiving the other six. Holy Family ranked third with 148 points, 18 more than the Cougars at 130.

Caldwell starts the 2009 season against Franklin Pierce at the Southern Connecticut State Tournament on Aug. 27 in New Haven, Conn.

10 STUDENT-ATHLETES SET TO JOIN CALDWELL WOMEN'S SOCCER

8-3-09
CALDWELL, N.J. – The Caldwell College women’s soccer team will add 10 new players for the fall of 2009, coach Nate Guagliardi announced. The recruiting, which consists of eight incoming freshmen and two transfers students, joins 13 returnees from last year’s 8-11-1 squad that advanced to the semifinals of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament.

“We are excited to add this group of talented players to our program this year,” said Guagliardi, the 2008 CACC Coach of the Year. “With so many quality players joining our returnees, there will be a lot of competition for playing time at all positions, and our depth will be one of our strengths.”

The transfer students include junior forward Jackie D’Orsaneo of Bowie, Md., and sophomore defender Chelsea Wuesthoff of Randolph, N.J. D’Orsaneo led Division III Guilford College in scoring last season with eight goals and eight assists for 24 points. The older sister of current Cougar Nikki D’Orsaneo (Bowie, MD/Bowie), Jackie D’Orsaneo also spent a year at Anne Arundel Community College, where she was a second team All-American in 2007. Wuesthoff comes to Caldwell after playing one season at Division I Louisiana Tech, where she saw action in seven games. A graduate of Randolph High School, Wuesthoff played in international tournaments in Holland, Spain and Brazil as a member of the New York Magic club team.

Six of the incoming freshmen are from New Jersey, including four defenders. Marissa Chambers of Clayton was a first team all-conference performer at Clayton High School. Jackie Crankshaw of Lanoka Harbor earned a spot on the Star-Ledger all-Ocean County third team as a senior at Lacey Township High School. Burcu Kulaksiz of Lyndhurst was named to the all-Bergen County Scholastic League first team twice and received all-Bergen County honorable mention three times while at Lyndhurst High School. Sarah Royse of Northvale was selected to the New Jersey all-Group 3 third team and made the all-Bergen County second team as a senior at Old Tappan High School.

The other student-athletes from New Jersey who are joining the Cougars are forward Gabrielle Jimenez of West New York, and midfielder Ashley Parent of Minotola. Jimenez was named to the all-Hudson County first team by the Star-Ledger as a senior at Memorial High School, while Parent received honorable mention all-League honors as a senior at Buena Regional High School, where she was a three-year starter.

The lone goalkeeper in this year’s class is Kristina Cabales of Islip Terrace, N.Y. Cabales was a member of the Long Island ODP squad and also was chosen all-League as a senior at East Islip High School. Another New York native, midfielder Alanna Kohler of Mahopac, earned all-League honors at Mahopac High School.

The Cougars lost three seniors from last year’s team, including all-Region and all-CACC first team forward Kristee Paknis (Whiting, NJ/Manchester), all-CACC second team midfielder Samantha Rinks (Corinth, TX/Billy Ryan), and forward Kim Fenton (Galloway Twp., NJ/Absegami), who received all-CACC honorable mention as a junior and senior.
