TIMBROOK RECEIVES FIRST TEAM ALL-AMERICAN HONORS
5-27-10
CALDWELL,
N.J. - Caldwell College senior Kyrie Timbrook
(Los Gatos, CA/Los Gatos) has been named to both the National Fastpitch
Coaches Association and Daktronics Softball All-America first teams, the
organizations announced today. Timbrook becomes the second Caldwell College
softball player to be chosen a consensus first team All-American, joining
former standout Gina Capardi, who received the honor in 2008.
"I am very happy that these organizations are recognizing Kyrie for all her
hard work on the softball field and in the class room," said Caldwell
softball coach Dean Johnson. "To have two first team All-Americans in
the past three years speaks volumes to the quality of student-athlete that
is choosing to enroll at Caldwell and compete in the softball program. This
is our third All-American since 2004, and individual success could not be
achieved without the success of the program. I am very happy for Kyrie. She
is well-deserving."
The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Year and a first
team NFCA and Daktronics all-East Region performer at first base, Timbrook
made her third all-CACC
first team after leading the conference in batting (.449), runs batted in
(68) and hits (80). This year she set single-season school records for RBI, hits,
doubles (22), and total bases (132) while tying classmate Danielle Genovese
(Livingston, NJ/Livingston) for the home run mark with 10. Nationally, Timbrook ranked
21st in batting average, 16th in RBI, 17th in doubles and ninth in toughest to strikeout, fanning
just five
times in 178 at-bats. An excellent defensive player at first base, she
committed just two errors in 500 chances for a .996 fielding percentage.
After batting .149 while starting 22 of Caldwell's 51 games as a freshman in
2007, Timbrook raised her batting average over 200 points (.354) and made
the all-CACC first team as a sophomore. As a junior, she led the Cougars in
batting (.364) and had 19 doubles and 41 RBI to earn all-Region second team
accolades. For her career, she batted .360 with 211 hits, 49
doubles, 16 home runs and 148 RBI in 211 games to rank third all-time at
Caldwell in hits, second in RBI, fourth in doubles, fourth in total bases
(306), fifth in homers and ninth in batting average.
Also an excellent student, Timbrook was chosen to the ESPN the Magazine
Academic All-America second team earlier this week. She is a two-time member
of the CACC All-Academic Team and is Caldwell's NJAIAW Woman of the Year.
Last week she was named the CACC Student-Athlete of the Month for April,
becoming the first Caldwell student-athlete to receive the honor. This past fall, Timbrook received the ECAC
Robbins Scholar-Athlete Award for achievement in academics and athletics.
She graduated from Caldwell with a bachelor's degree in communications.
Along with Timbrook and Capardi, other Caldwell softball All-Americans
include Corinne Reiser in 2004 and Kim Mahoney in 2000. This
year, the Cougars finished the season 42-16, tied for the CACC regular-season title and advanced to the
NCAA East Region Tournament for the sixth time in the last seven years.

all-Region honors earlier this week.
Timbrook, who made the NFCA all-Region second team as a junior, was
named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Year and made her third all-CACC
first team after leading the conference in batting (.449), runs batted in
(68) and hits (80). This season she set school records for RBI, hits,

Ryan repeats on the NFCA all-Region second team after another all-CACC first team
season in 2010. The Cougars' centerfielder and lead-off batter, Ryan batted
.316 with 56 hits, 41 runs and two triples. She also led Caldwell in stolen
bases with 16 to tie for second in the CACC. Also a standout on defense, she
recorded nine assists from centerfield this year. Ryan, who has 118 hits in
two seasons, ranks fourth on the program's all-time stolen bases list with
32 thefts.
The Cougar softball team, coached by Dean Johnson, finished the

WEST HAVEN, Conn. - The Caldwell College softball team was eliminated from
the NCAA Division II East Region Softball Tournament with a 2-1 loss to
Georgian Court University Saturday afternoon at the University of New Haven
Softball Field. The defeat ends Caldwell's season at 42-16, while the Lions
(39-18) will play Southern Connecticut State in an elimination game at 4:00
p.m.
Georgian Court's Jessica Comiskey led off the game with a double, then
scored when a single by Rachel Ruch was misplayed in the outfield, giving
the Lions a 1-0 lead. Caldwell advanced runners to third in the first and
third innings but were unable to get the clutch hit. Then in the fourth,
senior Kyrie Timbrook (Los Gatos, CA/Los Gatos) led off with a
single, and pinch-runner Rebecca Ashley
(Bellingham, MA/Mt. St. Charles Acad.) was sacrificed to second by sophomore
Marisa Tamez (Fountain Valley, CA/Fountain Valley). Junior Patti
Garofolo (Collegeville, PA/Springford) came through with a double to
left that plated Ashley with the tying run.
In the fifth, Caldwell put runners on second and third with nobody out
following a single by senior Brittni Frantellizzi (Binghamton,
NY/Susquehanna Valley) and a throwing error off a bunt from sophomore Kelly Ryan
(Woonsocket, RI/Mt. St. Charles Acad.),
who also stole second. But two strikeouts and a groundout kept the
game tied at 1-1. Georgian Court took advantage of the Cougars' missed
opportunity with a one-out triple by Comiskey in the top of the sixth.
Sammie Garofalo then singled home Comiskey for the go-ahead run. Again the
Cougars advanced a runner to third base with two out in the bottom of the
sixth, only to strand the runner with a strikeout. A pair of groundouts and
a strikeout in the bottom of the seventh ended the game and extended
Caldwell's losing streak to a season-high four games. Entering the
postseason, the Cougars hadn't lost more than two consecutive contests this
year.
Freshman Kourtney Wilson (Islip, NY/St. Anthony's), pictured, pitched a strong
game, allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits while striking out three
and walking none in a complete-game effort. The Lions' Diana Sansevera held
Caldwell to one run on six hits and struck out seven for the win.
The defeat ends the collegiate careers of seniors Frantellizzi, Timbrook and
Danielle Genovese (Livingston, NJ/Livingston). The trio played in
three NCAA Region tournaments while at Caldwell and won the 2008 Central
Atlantic Collegiate Conference title.

HAVEN, Conn. - The Caldwell College softball team dropped its first game at
the NCAA East Region Tournament, falling to fourth-seeded Southern

Southern Connecticut put runners on first and second in both the second and

loaded the bases on a bunt single by sophomore Kelly Ryan
(Woonsocket, RI/Mt. St. Charles Acad.), a hit batsman and a walk. With one
out, SCSU pitcher Jayme Larson recorded two groundouts to end the threat and
keep the game scoreless. The Owls had runners at second and third with two
out in the bottom of the seventh, but junior pitcher Brittany Pulido
(Ojai, CA/Nordhoff) induced a grounder to send the game into extra innings.
After Larson retired the Cougars in order in the top of the eighth, Brittany
Bucko led off the bottom of the eighth with a fly ball to right that was
dropped, then stole second. Following a foul out, Megan Caporossi stepped up
and lined a single to center. Bucko just beat Ryan's throw home for the
game-winning run.
Pulido (20-7) scattered six hits while striking out one and walking one in 7
1/3 innings of work. Larson gave up four hits and struck out three while
walking one in a complete-game shutout.

LAKEWOOD,
N.J. - The Caldwell College softball team suffered its second loss at the
Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Softball Tournament, losing to host
Georgian Court University Saturday afternoon at the GCU Softball Complex.
The defeat eliminates the Cougars (42-14) from the tournament, while the
Lions (37-16) advance to the finals against Dominican College.
The Lions scored all seven of their runs in the first three innings. Rachel
Ruch hit a two-run home run and Brooke Hull hit a solo shot in the top of
the first inning, then Jen Tartaglia hit a home run in the second for a 4-0
lead. A pair of errors, a two-run double by Hull and an RBI single from
Donnie Brossoie in the third made it 7-0 Georgian Court. Caldwell began its
comeback in the bottom of the third, when CACC Player of the Year Kyrie
Timbrook (Los Gatos, CA/Los Gatos) doubled home freshman Dia Cascone
(Staten Island, NY/Susan Wagner) and sophomore Kelly Ryan
(Woonsocket, RI/Mt. St. Charles Acad.) to cut the deficit to 7-2.
The Cougars put runners on base in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings but
did not score. Down to their final two outs in the seventh, Caldwell loaded
the bases on two walks and a single. Senior Brittni Frantellizzi
(Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) followed with a single to score
sophomore Marisa Tamez (Fountain Valley, CA/Fountain Valley). The
next batter, pinch hitter Kelly Schymanski (Pottstown, PA/Owen
Roberts) was hit by a pitch, plating junior Patti Garofolo
(Collegeville, PA/Springford) to make the score 7-4. After a grounder by
Ryan brought home freshman Sierra Parker (Chino Hills, CA/Chino
Hills), Cascone hit a two-out single that scored freshman Katie
Dellaratta (Deptford, NJ/Deptford) to pull the Cougars to within one,
7-6. With the tying run on second, Lions' pitcher Diana Sansevera struck out
the next batter to end the game.
Ryan, pictured, finished the game with three hits, a run and an RBI, while
Timbrook and Garofolo each had two hits for Caldwell. Junior Brittany
Pulido (Ojai, CA/Nordhoff) lasted two innings and allowed six hits and
seven runs, four earned. Freshman Kourtney Wilson (Islip, NY/St.
Anthony's) had a strong game in relief, holding the Lions to two hits while
striking out four without a walk in five innings. Sansevera went the
distance and gave up six runs on 11 hits while walking six and fanning four
to earn the win. Cascone, who batted .636 and scored four runs in the
tournament, and Timbrook, who hit two home runs and had nine RBI in four
games, were named to the CACC All-Tournament Team.
The Cougars, who were ranked fourth in last week's NCAA Division II East
Region rankings, will await to hear if they will receive an at-large bid to
next week's eight-team East Region Tournament.

LAKEWOOD, N.J. - The Caldwell College softball team advanced through the
winner’s bracket at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament on
Thursday, defeating Post University 8-0 in five innings before blanking
Concordia College 4-0 in the second round. The results give the Cougars a
42-12 record on the season.
In the game against Post, sophomore Marisa Tamez (Fountain Valley,
CA/Fountain Valley) hit a grounder to third with the bases loaded to plate
freshman Dia Cascone (Staten Island, NY/Susan Wagner) with the game’s
first run. Then in the second, Cascone’s bases-loaded single scored senior
Brittni Frantellizzi (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) for a 2-0
lead. After a strikeout, Timbrook stepped up and blasted a long home run to
center for a grand slam and a 6-0 advantage. In the fourth Timbrook followed
a double from senior Danielle Genovese (Livingston, NJ/Livingston)
with her second home run of the day and 10th of the season. The shot to
leftfield tied her with Genovese for the Cougars’ single-season record for
home runs.
Freshman Kourtney Wilson (Islip, NY/St. Anthony’s) dominated the
Eagles’ batters, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out three for
her third shutout in as many starts. The reigning CACC Pitcher of the Week,

Corinne Reiser, who won 27 games in 2004. Offensively, junior Patti
Garofolo (Collegeville, PA/Springford) hit a two-run single in the
first, and Tamez and Timbrook added RBI singles in support of Pulido’s
pitching effort.
The second-seeded Cougars will take on top-seeded Dominican College in a

CALDWELL,
N.J. - The Caldwell College softball team used stellar pitching and some
timely hitting from its three seniors to win two games against Philadelphia
University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader Saturday
afternoon at Caldwell Field. The sweep completes the regular season for the
Cougars (40-12 overall, 23-3 CACC), who set a school record for
regular-season wins in a season while clinching at least a tie for first in
the conference standings.
Seniors
Brittni Frantellizzi
(Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley), Danielle Genovese (Livingston,
NJ/Livingston) and Kyrie Timbrook (Los Gatos, CA/Los Gatos)
each sparked the Cougar offense in the final home games of their careers.
Genovese hit a solo home run in the first inning of Game 1 for a 1-0 lead.
The shot to right was her 10th homer of the season, breaking the
single-season record of nine held by former Cougars Stacy Falkowski (2007), Katie
Jackson (2006) and Theresa Davison (2000). Then in the third,
Frantellizzi blasted a three-run home run, her first of the season, for a
4-0 Caldwell advantage. It was Timbrook's turn in the sixth. With runners on
first and second and the Cougars leading 6-0, Timbrook doubled off the right
field fence to score both runs and end the game at 8-0.
Junior Brittany Pulido (Ojai, CA/Nordhoff) hurled a three-hit
shutout, her eighth of the season, to improve to 19-4. She struck out two
and did not allow a walk while facing 20 batters. Ali Schmidt took the loss
for the Rams (24-18, 16-8 CACC), giving up four runs on six hits in three
innings.
In
the second game, the Cougars scored the only run of the game in the bottom
of the second inning. Timbrook led off with a single, moved to second on a
sacrifice bunt by sophomore Marisa Tamez (Fountain Valley,
CA/Fountain Valley) and advanced to third on a passed ball. Junior Patti
Garofolo (Collegeville, PA/Springford) stepped up and hit a single up
the middle to score Timbrook and give the Cougars the only run they would
need. The Rams advanced a runner to to third in both the fifth and seventh
innings but did not score. In the seventh, freshman pitcher Kourtney Wilson
(Islip, NY/St. Anthony's) struck out the final two batters with Maggie
Desmond on third to end the game.
Wilson (16-5) gave up seven hits and struck out five for her third shutout
this season. Schmidt went the distance in the second game and held Caldwell
to four hits and one run in six innings. Desmond hit two doubles in a
3-for-3 performance at the plate for Philadelphia.
In addition to Genovese's record home run, Timbrook also set a program
record with her 20th and 21st doubles of the season. Her double in the
fourth inning of Game 2 was her 73rd hit of the season, tying the mark set
by former All-American Gina Capardi in 2008 for hits in a season.
This is the third time Caldwell has won 40 games overall in a season,
following the 45-7 team in 2004 and the 40-11 squad in 2005. The
regular-season crown is Caldwell's fifth, having finished first in 2004,
2005, 2006 and 2007.
The senior trio of Frantellizzi, Genovese and Timbrook has won 146 games
while recording 562 hits, 38 home runs and 322 runs batted in at Caldwell.
The Cougars will begin play at the CACC Tournament on Thursday, May 6 in
Lakewood, N.J.

FLUSHING,
N.Y. - Senior Kyrie Timbrook (Los Gatos, CA/Los Gatos) recorded the

match the program's record for most regular-season victories.
Queens (16-28) took an early lead in Game 1 on a two-run home run by

hit a two-run single and later scored on a grounder by sophomore Katie
Margiotta (Sewell, NJ/Washington) for a 3-2 lead. Freshman Sierra
Parker (Chino Hills, CA/Chino HIlls) drove in a run in a two-run fifth
inning that made the score 5-2 Caldwell. Queens scored a run in the sixth on

hit. She becomes the sixth player in the program's history, and the second
this season, to reach the 200-hit milestone. Senior Danielle Genovese
(Livingston, NJ/Livingston) achieved the feat on Apr. 14.
Timbrook's hit sparked a four-run third inning that put Caldwell ahead 10-1.
Garofolo, Tamez and freshman Kelly Schymanski (Pottstown, PA/Owen
Roberts) also drove in runs in the third. Things continued to go the
Cougars' way, as they scored four runs in the fourth inning for a 14-1 lead.
Timbrook had her third RBI single of the game, while Tamez hit a two-run
single and Garofolo singled home Ryan. Tamez went 3-for-3 with three RBI in
Game 2 and finished the day with six hits in seven at-bats. Ryan was a

CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College softball team split a non-conference
doubleheader with 17th-ranked C.W. Post University, losing the first game
2-1 in eight innings before winning the second 1-0 Wednesday afternoon at
Caldwell Field. The Cougars, who are ranked fifth in the latest NCAA East
Region rankings, are now 36-12 on the season, while the Pioneers, ranked
second in the region, are 39-11.
The first game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth, when a
double by senior Kyrie Timbrook (Los Gatos, CA/Los Gatos) plated
pinch runner Rebecca Ashley
(Bellingham, MA/Mt. St. Charles Acad.) from second for a 1-0 Caldwell lead.
C.W. Post tied the game in the top of the fifth on a wild pitch that allowed
Kendall Bright to score from third. The Pioneers loaded the bases with one
out in the top of the sixth, but junior pitcher Brittany Pulido
(Ojai, CA/Nordhoff) induced a pair of groundouts to end the inning. Then in
the eighth, a double by Christie Softy scored Rogin Hardy, who led off the
inning with a single, to score the go-ahead run. Caldwell managed a walk in
the bottom of the eighth but was unable to score. The loss ended the
Cougars' 10-game winning streak.
Pulido allowed two runs on 11 hits in eight innings to drop to 17-4. It was
her first loss in her last seven starts. C.W.Post's Sarah Kiser (20-4) held
the Cougars to one run on three hits while striking out six and walking two
in eight innings.
The second game was also a close affair, with the teams combining for three
hits in the game. The lone run of the contest was scored in the bottom of
the first inning and did not require a hit. Sophomore Kelly Ryan
(Woonsocket, RI/Mt. St. Charles Acad.) led off with a walk, moved to second
on a wild pitch and was sacrificed to third by freshman Dia Cascone
(Staten Island, NY/Susan Wagner). Ryan then scored on another wild pitch for
a 1-0 Caldwell lead.
Freshman Kourtney Wilson (Islip, NY/St. Anthony's) did the rest,
allowing a double in the second inning and a single in the seventh to record
a two-hit shutout. Wilson (14-5) did not walk anyone while fanning two in
seven innings for her second career shutout. Hayley Bettles (11-3) was
equally impressive for the Pioneers, surrendering just one hit while
recording four strikeouts and three walks in six innings of work. Junior Patti Garofolo (Collegeville, PA/Springford)
hit a two-out single in the second for the Cougars' only hit of the game.

PHILADELPHIA,
Pa. - Sophomore Juliette Wilson (Dallas, OR/West Salem) tossed a
no-hitter in a 6-0 victory over Chestnut Hill College on Saturday at the CHC
Softball Field. The gem came in the first game of a Central Atlantic
Collegiate Conference doubleheader, with the Cougars winning the second game
5-0 for the sweep. The wins give Caldwell a 35-11 record overall, including
a 21-3 mark in league play, while the Griffins fall to 2-36, 2-24 CACC.
Wilson, pictured, retired the first seven batters in order before allowing a
walk, the only blemish on her pitching line. She then sat down the next 14
batters without giving up a hit to record the no-hitter. Wilson faced 22
batters and registered eight fly outs and eight groundouts while striking
out five and walking one in seven innings. Senior Kyrie Timbrook (Los
Gatos, CA/Los Gatos) went 2-for-4 with three runs batted in to pace the
Caldwell offense, which scored twice in the first inning, single runs in the
fourth and sixth innings and two more in the seventh. Freshmen Dia Cascone
(Staten Island, NY/Susan Wagner) and Kelly Schymanski (Pottstown,
PA/Owen Roberts) also had two hits apiece for the Cougars.
Wilson's performance marked the program's first no-hitter since former
All-American Corinne Reiser pitched a six-inning perfect game against
Nyack College on Apr. 12, 2004. Reiser also has the last seven-inning
no-hitter, which occurred on Mar. 29, 2004 at Bloomfield.
In the second game, Caldwell broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the
top of the fourth. Junior Patti Garofolo (Collegeville, PA/Springford)
hit a run-scoring double, while Schymanski and sophomore Marisa Tamez
(Fountain Valley, CA/Fountain Valley) also drove in runs. Then in the fifth,

while fanning seven and walking none for her first career complete-game
shutout.
Timbrook, Garofolo and freshman Cassandra Cefolo (Florham Park,
NJ/Hanover Park) led the Cougar bats with two hits each, while Tamez had two
RBI.
The results allowed the Cougars to set a program record for CACC victories
in a season with 21, breaking last year's mark of 20.
Caldwell is back in action on Wednesday, Apr. 28 with a non-conference
doubleheader against C.W. Post. The first game is set to start at 3:00 p.m.

PHILADELPHIA,
Pa. - A sacrifice fly by senior Brittni Frantellizzi (Binghamton,

College softball team to win the second game of a Central Atlantic
Collegiate Conference doubleheader at the University of the Sciences, 2-1

international tie-breaker rule and began each half of the ninth inning with
a runner on second base. In the top of the ninth, junior Annie Forte
(Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) moved to third on a sacrifice bunt from
freshman Kelly Schymanski (Pottstown, PA/Owen Roberts). Frantellizzi,
left, stepped up and drove in Forte with a fly ball to right to put the
Cougars ahead 2-1. After USP sacrificed the runner to third in the bottom of
the ninth, freshman pitcher Kourtney Wilson (Islip, NY/St. Anthony's)
retired the final two batters on a groundout and a lineout to clinch the win
for Caldwell.
Freshman
Dia Cascone (Staten Island, NY/Susan Wagner) drove in a run with a

striking out three and walking one to improve to 11-5. The Devils' Courtney
Spina also went the distance and took the loss.

first inning. Senior Kyrie Timbrook (Los Gatos, CA/Los Gatos) doubled
home Cascone, then scored on a single by sophomore Marisa Tamez

record for home runs in a season. Genovese is also tied for second with
Jackson on Caldwell's all-time home run list with 19 career homers.

CALDWELL TAKES TWO AGAINST WILMINGTON IN SOFTBALL

CALDWELL,
N.J. - The Caldwell College softball team won a pair of close games against
Wilmington University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference
doubleheader Saturday afternoon at a chilly Caldwell Field. The Cougars, who
are now 27-11 overall and 13-3 in the CACC, earned a 2-0 victory in Game 1
before taking the second game 4-3 on a bases-loaded, two-out single by
senior Kyrie Timbrook (Los Gatos, CA/Los Gatos) in the bottom of the
seventh. The Wildcats fall to 16-16-1, 8-8 CACC with the defeats.
Pitching was stingy in the first game, with the teams combining for three
hits heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. Wilmington threatened to
score in the fifth by loading the bases with one out. But junior pitcher
Brittany Pulido (Ojai, CA/Nordhoff) fanned the next batter and induced a
grounder to second to keep the Wildcats scoreless. In the bottom of the
sixth, sophomore Kelly Ryan (Woonsocket, RI/Mt. St. Charles Acad.)
hit a one-out single and later stole second. With two outs, senior
Danielle Genovese (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) hit a two-run blast to
right for the first runs of the game.
Pulido
(14-3) retired the side in order in the top of the seventh to wrap up the
win. Over seven innings, she held Wilmington to two hits and no walks while
striking out two for her seventh shutout of the season. Ryan had a pair of
hits for Caldwell in the win. The Wildcats' Kim Lawrence also pitched a
strong game, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out two in six
innings.
Genovese (left) continued to swing a hot bat into the second game, as she
hit another two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning for her
team-leading eighth home run of the season. Timbrook (right) followed with a
solo shot for her eighth of the year to tie Genovese for the team lead and
put Caldwell on top 3-0. It is the second time this season that Genovese and
Timbrook have hit back-to-back home runs. The Wilmington bats woke up in the
fifth inning, as Lindsay Watson hit a run-scoring double and then scored on
a two-run home run by Brooke Berger that tied the game at 3-3.
The score remained deadlocked heading into the bottom of the seventh. With
two outs, Ryan singled and freshman Dia Cascone (Staten Island,
NY/Susan Wagner) drew a walk. Wilmington intentionally walked Genovese to
load the bases, bringing up Timbrook. After taking the first two pitches,
Timbrook roped a single down the left field line, scoring Ryan with the
game-winning run. It is the second walk-off hit this season for Timbrook,
who is batting a team-leading .478.
Freshman Kourtney Wilson (Islip, NY/St. Anthony's) went the distance
for Caldwell, giving up three runs on four hits while fanning two and
walking one to improve to 10-5 on the season. Wilmington's Heather Karasek
pitched 5 2/3 innings of relief and allowed one run on two hits and six
walks to absorb the loss.

LAKEWOOD,
N.J. - In a rematch of last year's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference
final, the Caldwell College softball team split a doubleheader with Georgian
Court University Thursday afternoon at the GCU Softball Complex. The Cougars
won the first game 7-1 before falling in extra innings in Game 2, 6-5. The
results give Caldwell a 25-11 record on the season, including an 11-3 mark
in conference play, while the Lions are now 27-11, 13-3 CACC.
Junior pitcher Brittany Pulido (Ojai, CA/Nordhoff) was in control of
Game 1, scattering four hits while striking out six and walking one in a
complete-game effort. Georgian Court managed to score an unearned run in the
sixth, but Pulido kept the Lions' bats at bay to earn her 13th victory on
the season. Sophomore Katie Margiotta (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.)
sparked the Cougar offense with a 3-for-3 performance at the plate,
including a double and a triple. She scored the first run of the game in the
top of the third after tripling and coming home on a sacrifice fly from
sophomore Dia Cascone (Staten Island, NY/Susan Wagner). After junior
Patti Garofolo (Collegeville, PA/Springford) also hit a sacrifice fly
in the third, Margiotta, right, led off the fifth with a double and scored
on a single by sophomore Kelly Ryan (Woonsocket, RI/Mt. St. Charles
Acad.) for a 3-0 lead. Senior Kyrie Timbrook (Los Gatos, CA/Los
Gatos) also plated a run in the fifth with a single to put Caldwell ahead
4-0.
The
Cougars answered Georgian Court's run in the sixth with three runs of their
own in the top of the seventh. Cascone and sophomore Marisa Tamez
(Fountain Valley, CA/Fountain Valley) had run-scoring hits, while Timbrook
drove in Cascone with a grounder. GCU's Diana Sansevera gave up seven runs,
six earned, on eight hits in seven innings to drop to 16-5.
Caldwell started quickly in Game 2 with two runs in the top of the first
inning. Timbrook hit a two-out double to score senior Danielle Genovese
(Livingston, NJ/Livingston), then came home on a single by Tamez. Another
double by Timbrook in the third brought home Cascone for a 3-0 lead. A
two-run double by Kelsey Cutler in the bottom of the third made it a one-run
game, then a two-run homer from Jessica Comisky in the fourth put GCU on top
4-3. In the top of the sixth, Caldwell tied the game when Tamez singled in
Genovese. Caldwell then took a 5-4 lead on a sacrifice fly from senior
Brittni Frantellizzi (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) in the top of
the seventh.
Pulido relieved starter Kourtney Wilson (Islip, NY/St. Anthony's) and
gave up a lead-off single to Comisky. After Sammie Garofalo bunted Comisky
to second, Rachel Ruch singled to plate Comisky with the tying run. The
Lions retired the Cougars in order in the top of the eighth, then won the
game on a single by Melissa DePalma that scored Jen Tartaglia from third

BRIARCLIFF,
N.Y. - Senior Danielle Genovese (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) recorded
her 200th career hit in a doubleheader sweep of Pace University Wednesday
afternoon at Pace Field. She is the fifth Cougar softball player to reach
the 200-hit milestone in the history of the program. The non-conference wins give the Cougars a 24-10
record on the season, while the Setters fall to 16-16.
In the first game, Caldwell got on the scoreboard in the top of the second
inning with a two-run home run by freshman Kourtney Wilson (Islip,
NY/St. Anthony's), her first homer of her collegiate career. After junior
Patti Garofolo (Collegeville, PA/Springford) singled home a run in the
fourth, Caldwell pushed three runs across in the top of the fifth to lead
6-0. Genovese (left), who entered the day with 198 hits in her career, hit
an RBI single in the inning and later scored on a double by senior Kyrie
Timbrook (Los Gatos, CA/Los Gatos). Freshman Cassandra Cefolo
(Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park) hit a pinch-hit, run-scoring single in the
sixth to make the score 7-0.
Junior pitcher Brittany Pulido (Ojai, CA/Nordhoff) blanked the
Setters, tossing a three-hit shutout while fanning three and walking none.
Timbrook and Wilson, who also hit a double, each had a pair of hits to pace
the Cougar bats. Kelly Fisher gave up seven runs on seven hits in six
innings to absorb the loss for Pace.
Genovese
achieved the 200-hit milestone in her first at-bat of Game 2, hitting an
infield single in the top of the first inning. The game remained scoreless
until the top of the fourth, when freshman Sierra Parker (Chino
Hills, CA/Chino Hills) blasted her first career home run for a 1-0 Caldwell
lead. Then in the fifth, freshman Kelly Ryan (Woonsocket, RI/Mt. St.
Charles Acad.) and Genovese singled before Timbrook hit a three-run shot to
give the Cougars a 4-0 advantage. It was Timbrook's team-leading seventh
homer of the season. Pace scored its first and only run of the day in the
bottom of the fifth on a single by Nicole Schultheis. But Caldwell continued
to use the long ball, as Garofolo led off the sixth with her first home run
of the season. After Timbrook drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Ryan
came home on an error, Parker, right, crushed her second homer of the game,
a three-run shot to left for a 10-1 lead.
Wilson pitched all six innings, allowing seven hits and one run while
striking out six to improve to 9-4 on the season. Colby Hochmuth lasted five
innings and allowed seven runs on 10 hits and four walks for Pace.
Genovese is the first Cougar to record 200 career hits since Candice
Collins in 2004. She now has 202 hits and is tied for third on
Caldwell's all-time list with Theresa Davison (1999-2002). Former
All-American Kim Mahoney holds the program's hit record with 253 from
1998-2001.

CALDWELL SOFTBALL SPLITS NON-CONFERENCE DOUBLEHEADER WITH AIC
3-28-10

AIC 5, CC 4
CALDWELL,
N.J. - A late comeback by American International in the second game
prevented the Caldwell College softball team from sweeping the Yellow
Jackets in a non-conference doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Caldwell Field.
The Cougars (13-7) won the first game 5-0 before allowing five runs in the
top of the seventh in Game 2 to lose 5-4. AIC is now 7-11 on the
season.
Caldwell wasted little time getting on the scoreboard in Game 1, with senior
Danielle Genovese (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) hitting a double that
scored sophomore Kelly Ryan (Woonsocket, RI/Mt. St. Charles Acad.) in
the bottom of the first for a 1-0 lead. Genovese then led off the fourth
with a solo home run to left, her second of the season. Sophomore Rebecca
Ashley (Bellingham, MA/Mt. St. Charles Acad.) came home on a passed ball
to make the score 3-0. In the bottom of the sixth, junior Patti Garofolo
(Collegeville, PA/Springford) doubled home freshman Amy Leal (New Bedford, MA/Bishop Stang),
then scored on a single from freshman Cassandra Cefolo (Florham Park,
NJ/Hanover Park) for a 5-0 lead.
Junior pitcher Brittany Pulido (Ojai, CA/Nordhoff) didn't need much
offensive support, as she blanked the Yellow Jackets on just three hits
while striking out 10 without a walk in a complete-game shutout. It was the
fourth shutout of the season for Pulido, pictured, who is now 7-1 on the
season. Erin Gilkes allowed five runs, two earned, on 10 hits in six innings
for AIC.
In the second game, Caldwell again scored in the first inning to take the
early lead. With two out, Genovese singled, then came home when senior
Kyrie Timbrook (Los Gatos, CA/Los Gatos) followed with a double for her
team-leading 26th RBI of the season. Freshman pitcher Kourtney Wilson
(Islip, NY/St. Anthony's) made the one-run lead hold up through six innings,
giving up just two hits heading into the top of the seventh. In their final
at-bat, the Yellow Jackets put runners on first and second with one out. The
next batter, Ashleigh St. Peter, lined out to Timbrook at first base.
Timbrook appeared to tag out Lauran Rousseau before she returned to first
base for the game's final out. But the umpires reversed the initial call,
giving AIC new life.
AIC took advantage of its second chance, as Katie Elie followed with a
double that tied the game at 1-1. After Erin St. Pierre walked to load the
bases, Sarah Calgreen hit a grand slam home run over the right-field fence
to take a 5-1 lead. Yellow Jackets' pitcher Elizabeth Habib retired the
first two batters in the bottom of the seventh, leaving Caldwell down to its
last out. But the Cougars mounted their own comeback, getting back-to-back
singles from Garofolo and senior Brittni Frantellizzi (Binghamton,
NY/Susquehanna Valley), then loading the bases when Ryan walked. Freshman
Dia Cascone (Staten Island, NY/Susan Wagner) stepped up and hit a
bases-clearing double off the left-field fence to make it a one-run game in
favor of AIC, 5-4. With Cascone in scoring position, Habib ended the
Cougars' rally with a strikeout to give the Yellow Jackets a 5-4 victory and
a split.
Wilson (5-3) ended up allowing five runs on six hits in seven innings. Habib
also went the distance, giving up four runs on eight hits while striking out
five.

Cougars, who are 10-6 overall and 1-1 in the CACC. The Chargers are now 9-7,
2-2 CACC.
Caldwell scored all three of its runs in Game 1 in the top of the first
inning, benefitting from two Chargers' errors. Senior Kyrie Timbrook
(Los Gatos, CA/Los Gatos) singled home sophomore Kelly Ryan
(Woonsocket, RI/Mt. St. Charles Acad.) and later scored on a grounder by
sophomore Katie Margiotta (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.). Freshman
Kourtney Wilson (Islip, NY/St. Anthony's) also had an RBI in the inning.
Junior pitcher Brittany Pulido (Ojai, CA/Nordhoff) did the rest,
scattering five hits while walking two and striking out two in seven innings
for her third shutout of the season. Dominican's Katrina Pistilli allowed
six hits and three unearned runs in a complete-game effort.
In the second game, the Cougars took the lead in the second inning when
Timbrook came home on an error. Sophomore Marisa Tamez (Fountain
Valley, CA/Fountain Valley) led off the top of the fourth with a home run,
her first of the season, to make the score 2-0 Caldwell. The lead held into
the bottom of the seventh, when Dominican loaded the bases with no outs on a
walk, an error and a single. Pulido relieved Wilson, who started the game,
and induced a grounder that allowed the Cougars to get the force at home.
But Ashley Corrao followed with a two-run hit that tied the game at 2-2.
Ashley Martinez tried to score from first on the play but was thrown out at
the plate by freshman Dia Cascone (Staten Island, NY/Susan Wagner).
Pulido retired the next batter on a groundout to end the threat and force
extra innings.
Neither teams scored over the next three innings despite using the
international tie-breaker rule starting in the ninth inning. In the top of
the 11th, senior Brittni Frantellizzi (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna
Valley) singled home Tamez to put Caldwell ahead 3-2. The Chargers answered
in the bottom of the 11th, when Jessica Syska scored on a sacrifice fly by
Julie Plante. Cascone restored the Cougars' one-run lead with a single that
plated freshman Amy Leal (New Bedford, MA/Bishop Stang) in the top of
the 12th. Again Dominican responded with a run-scoring single by Nicole
Scarillo to tie the game at 4-4. After Deidre Jeppson reached on a fielder's
choice and stole second, Martinez doubled to centerfield, scoring Jeppson
with the game-winning run.
Pulido (5-1) gave up three runs, one earned, on three hits in 5 2/3 innings
of relief. Wilson pitched six innings and allowed four hits and two runs,
one earned. Tamez, pictured, went 4-for-5 with a home run, an RBI and two
runs scored to pace the Cougar offense. Delaney Childers (4-4) went the
distance for Dominican, surrendering 11 hits and four runs, one earned,
while walking one and fanning eight in 12 innings for the win.

CALDWELL,
N.J. - The Caldwell College softball team began its 2010 home schedule with
a key regional doubleheader with Le Moyne College on Sunday, winning the
first game 1-0 before falling 4-1 in the second game. The results give the
Cougars a 9-5 record overall, while the Dolphins, who won the 2009 East
Region title, are now 2-8.
The first game was a pitching dual between Caldwell junior Brittany
Pulido (Ojai, CA/Nordhoff) and Katelyn Fowler of Le Moyne, who kept the
scoreboard quiet through five innings. After Pulido retired the side in the
top of the sixth while surrendering an infield hit, freshman Dia Cascone
(Staten Island, NY/Susan Wagner) led off the bottom of the sixth with a
double off the fence in left centerfield. Senior Danielle Genovese
(Livingston, NJ/Livingston) bunted Cascone to third, then senior Kyrie
Timbrook (Los Gatos, CA/Los Gatos) drove in the game's only run with a
sacrifice fly to right. Le Moyne advanced a runner to third with one out in
the seventh, but Pulido induced a lineout and groundout to end the game.
Pulido (4-0) scattered four hits in seven innings while walking two and
fanning two for her second shutout of the season. Fowler gave up five hits
in six innings while striking out four for Le Moyne. Cascone finished with
two of Caldwell's five hits, while Kimberlee Baker delivered two hits for
the Dolphins.
Le Moyne took advantage of Caldwell errors in the first and third innings to
take a 2-0 lead on two unearned runs. In the bottom of the third, freshman
Kelly Schmanski (Pottstown, PA/Owen Roberts) singled and later came
home on a wild pitch to make the score 2-1 Le Moyne. The Dolphins extended
their lead to 4-1 in the fourth, when Leah Ford tripled home Meghan Hart,
then scored on a single by Danielle Van Gorder.
Brenna Klein allowed one run on four hits in 5 2/3 innings to earn the win,
while Fowler pitched the final 1 1/3 innings to pick up the save. Caldwell
freshman Kourtney Wilson (Islip, NY/St. Anthony's) went the distance
and gave up 12 hits and four runs, two earned, while striking out three and
walking none.
The Cougars host another non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday, Mar. 23,
when NYIT visits Caldwell Field. The first pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.

Marisa Tamez (Fountain Valley, CA/Fountain Valley) doubled to put

run-scoring singles to spark a four-run first inning. After the Purple
Knights scored a run in the top of the third, Timbrook crushed a two-run

at the Rebel Spring Games, held at the Osceola County Softball Complex
Sunday morning. The Cougars (2-2) fell to Shepherd University 2-1 in eight
innings, then came back to beat Adelphi University 4-3.
Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third on a solo home run by
Tiffany Farmer. The lead held up until the top of the sixth. With freshman
Dia Cascone (Staten Island, NY/Susan Wagner) on second and two outs,
senior Kyrie Timbrook (Los Gatos, CA/Los Gatos) doubled off the left
centerfield fence to plate Cascone and tie the game at 1-1. Neither team
scored in their remaining at-bats, resulting in Caldwell’s third consecutive
extra-inning game. The Cougars played 21 innings over two games on Saturday.
After Caldwell was held scoreless in the top of the eighth, Tricia Bettura
hit the first pitch deep to center, scoring Amber Dudek, who was placed on
second per the international tie-break rule, with the game-winning run.
Bettura pitched all eight innings, allowing a run on four hits while
striking out six for Shepherd (7-0). Freshman Kourtney Wilson (Islip,

River, NJ/Toms River North) singled home Genovese with two down in the fifth
to put Caldwell on top 4-3. Adelphi loaded the bases with one out in the
bottom of the seventh with two singles and a walk. But Kourtney Wilson
struck out the next batter and induced an infield popup to end the game and
earn her first collegiate victory.
Wilson gave up three hits in four innings of relief of junior Brittany
Pulido (Ojai, CA/Nordhoff), who allowed three runs on five hits in three
innings. Timbrook and Genovese each had two hits for Caldwell, while Amanda

KISSIMMEE,
Fla. - The Caldwell College softball team worked overtime in its
season-opening doubleheader at the Rebel Spring Games, beating St. Cloud
State 10-8 in 10 innings before falling to Lock Haven University 8-7 in 11
innings Saturday at the Osceola County Softball Complex. The games, which
lasted a combined six hours, are the first two of 12 contest for the Cougars
(1-1) in Florida.
In the first game against St. Cloud State, senior Kyrie Timbrook (Los
Gatos, CA/Los Gatos) blasted a two-out grand slam home run to deep
centerfield in the bottom of the 10th inning for a 10-8 win. Caldwell, which
allowed a pair of runs in the top of the 10th to trail 8-6, loaded the bases
on two walks in addition to placing a runner on second base in accordance
with the international tie-break rule.
After falling behind 5-2 through two innings, the Cougars pulled even with a
two-run homer by senior shortstop Danielle Genovese (Livingston,
NJ/Livingston) in the fifth and a run-scoring, pinch-hit double from
freshman Sierra Parker (Chino Hills, CA/Chino Hills) in the sixth.
Following a Huskies run in the eighth, junior Patti Garofolo
(Collegeville, PA/Springford) doubled home sophomore Katie Margiotta
(Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) to tie the game and set up Timbrook's heroics.
Timbrook and Garofolo each had three hits, while Genovese had two hits.
Freshman pitcher Kourtney Wilson (Islip, NY/St. Anthony's) allowed
five runs on six hits in the first two innings, then blanked the Huskies

four inning and earned the win. Heather Trobec pitched all 9 2/3 innings for
SCSU (7-8) and took the loss, while Ally Koski hit her fourth home run of
the season.
In the second game it was Caldwell who took the early lead, taking advantage
of four Lock Haven errors to build a 4-1 lead after two innings. Two run
singles from Amanda Gutmaker in the fourth and Kelsey Mullins in the fifth
allowed Lock Haven (3-4) to take a 5-4 advantage. Freshman Dia Cascone
(Staten Island, NY/Susan Wagner) singled home freshman Amy Leal (New
Bedford, MA/Bishop Stang) to tie the game at 5-5. In the eighth, Cascone
plated Leal with a single for a 6-5 Caldwell lead. With two out and a runner
on third in the bottom of the eighth, a Caldwell error allowed Lock Haven to
tie the score and extend the game. Again in the 10th, the Cougars scored on
a double by Leal that scored Garofolo. But two more errors resulted in
another game-tying run by Lock Haven. After holding Caldwell scoreless in
the top of the 11th, Lock Haven ended the game in its favor on a
bases-loaded sacrifice fly by Brittany Patacky.
Leal finished with two doubles, two walks and three runs in her first career
start, while Cascone went 3-for-6 with two RBI for Caldwell. Junior pitcher
Brittany Pulido (Ojai, CA.Nordhoff) started and allowed 11 hits and
five runs, two earned, in 6 2/3 innings. Schymanski was solid in relief,
