COUGARS MEN'S TENNIS COMPLETES SEASON WITH LOSS TO QUEENS

CALDWELL,
N.J. - The Caldwell College men's tennis team wrapped up the 2008 season
with a 9-0 loss to Queens College in a dual Saturday afternoon at the
Caldwell College Tennis Courts. The Cougars end the year with a 5-9 overall
record, while the Knights improve to 11-6.
The Cougars lost all six singles matches and all three doubles matches in
pro sets. Today's season finale also marked the final competition for
seniors Jan Marco Jiras (Lima, Peru) and Amir Zandieh (Tehran,
Iran/Montville), who were members of the tennis team for four years.

CALDWELL MEN'S TENNIS DEFEATS CHESTNUT HILL FOR THIRD STRAIGHT WIN

CALDWELL,
N.J. - The Caldwell College men's tennis team won its third consecutive
dual, defeating Chestnut Hill College, 7-2 Friday afternoon at the Caldwell
College Tennis Courts. The Cougars took five of six matches at singles and
won two of three in doubles to improve to 5-8 on the season. The Griffins
fall to 7-12 with the loss.
Juniors Alex Ali (Lakewood, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) and Michael Ober
(Lavallette, NJ/Point Beach) paired up to win their match at No. 2 doubles,
then they both were victorious at first and fifth singles, respectively. Ali
outlasted Chestnut Hill's Carson Richter, 7-6, 1-6, 6-3 in the day's only
three-set match. Seniors Jan Marco Jiras (Lima, Peru) and Amir
Zandieh (Tehran, Iran/Montville), and junior Thane McKenzie
(Kingston, Jamaica/Wolmer's) also won their matches at second, third and
sixth singles, respectively. Freshmen Josh Getka (Cape May, NJ/Lower
Cape May Reg.) and Andy Loughnane
(Harrison City, PA/Penn Trafford) also were victorious at No. 3 doubles.
The Cougars end their 2008 season with a home match against Queens College
on Saturday, Apr. 26, beginning at 12:00 p.m. at the Caldwell College Tennis
Courts.

COUGARS SHUT OUT BLOOMFIELD IN MEN'S TENNIS

BLOOMFIELD,
N.J. - The Caldwell College men's tennis team earned its second consecutive
shutout with a 9-0 victory over Bloomfield College in a team dual Thursday
afternoon. The Cougars, who also blanked Post University on Tuesday,
recorded two consecutive victories for the first time this season to improve
to 4-8 on the season.
Seniors Amir Zandieh (Tehran, Iran/Montville) and Jan Marco Jiras
(Lima, Peru), pictured, won their match at No. 1 doubles, while Caldwell's
No. 2 doubles team of junior Michael Ober (Lavallette, NJ/Point
Beach) and freshman Josh Getka (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May Reg.)
edged Bloomfield's Bhamik Patel and Evan McCall, 9-7. In singles, Jiras,
Zandieh and Ober all were victorious at second, third and fifth singles,
respectively. Juniors Alex Ali (Lakewood, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) and
Thane McKenzie (Kingston, Jamaica/Wolmer's) also won their matches at
first and fourth singles. Caldwell received walkover wins at third doubles
and sixth singles to complete the scoring.
Next up for Caldwell is a home dual against Chestnut Hill College on Friday,
Apr. 24, beginning at 4:00 p.m. at the Caldwell College Tennis Courts.

CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College men's tennis team won all six matches
in singles play as well as all three doubles matches to sweep Post
University, 9-0 in a dual Tuesday afternoon at the Caldwell College Tennis
Courts. The result gives the Cougars a 3-8 mark on the season.
After all three of Caldwell's doubles teams won by the same score of 8-0,
junior Alex Ali (Lakewood, NJ/Monsignor Donovan), pictured, and senior Jan
Marco Jiras (Lima, Peru) earned straight-set victories at first and
second singles, respectively. Juniors Mike Ober (Lavallette, NJ/Point
Beach) and Thane McKenzie (Kingston, Jamaica/Wolmer's), and freshmen

COUGARS FALL TO RAMAPO IN MEN'S TENNIS

MAHWAH, N.J. - The Caldwell College men's tennis team was blanked for the
second straight dual and third time this season, falling to Ramapo College,
9-0 Monday afternoon at the Ramapo College Tennis Courts. The defeat drops
the Cougars to 2-8 on the season, while the Roadrunners are now 10-7.
Caldwell suffered a narrow defeat at first doubles, as seniors Jan Marco
Jiras (Lima, Peru) and Amir Zandieh (Tehran, Iran/Montville) lost
to Prasanna Fernardo and Alan Kats, 9-8. Fernardo also dispatched junior
Alex Ali (Lakewood, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) in a close match at No. 1
singles, 6-3, 7-6 (7-3).
The Cougars host Post University on Tuesday, Apr. 22 at 3:30 p.m. at the
Caldwell College Tennis Courts.

CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College men's tennis team was defeated by the
University of the Sciences, 9-0 in a team dual Saturday afternoon at the
Caldwell College Tennis Courts. The loss gives the Cougars a 2-7 record on
the season, while the Devils improve to 8-3.
USP won all three doubles matches before winning two singles matches in
straight sets and the other four in pro sets.
The Cougars are back in action on Sunday, Apr. 20 for a dual against
Philadelphia University at the Caldwell College Tennis Courts. The first
match begins at 12:00 p.m.

Pa. - The Caldwell College men's tennis team captured five of six singles
matches en route to a 7-2 victory over Chestnut Hill College Wednesday
afternoon. Junior Thane McKenzie (Kingston, Jamaica/Wolmer's) was one
of three players to win both their singles and doubles matches, helping the
Cougars improve to 2-6 on the season. The loss drops the Griffins to 7-9.
McKenzie and junior Alex Ali (Lakewood, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) won
their match at No. 3 doubles, defeating Kyle DeRiemer and Mike Maccherone,
8-0. Junior Mike Ober (Lavallette, NJ/Point Beach) combined with
freshman Josh Getka (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May Reg.) to win a close
match at No. 2 doubles, 9-8 (7-1) over Garrett Senior and Jim Stewart.
McKenzie then won his match in straight sets at No. 5 singles, as did Ali at

College by the score of 6-3 Monday afternoon at the Caldwell College Tennis
Courts. Junior Mike Ober (Lavallette, NJ/Point Beach) won his match
at fifth singles for the Cougars, who are now 1-5 on the season.
Ober out-scored Dowling's Kevin Lotito, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5 singles to earn
Caldwell's only point in a contested match. The Cougars picked up points in
walkovers at sixth singles and third doubles, as the Lions recorded
victories in four singles matches and two doubles matches.
The Cougars play at Philadelphia University on Tuesday, Apr. 15, beginning

MEN'S TENNIS BEATS RUTGERS-NEWARK FOR FIRST WIN OF SEASON

N.J. - The Caldwell College men's tennis team won two doubles matches and
four singles matches to defeat Rutgers-Newark, 6-3 Saturday afternoon at the
Golden Dome Courts. Senior Amir Zandieh (Tehran, Iran/Montville) was
one of three players to win both at singles and doubles for the Cougars, who
are now 1-4. The Scarlet Raiders fall to 3-3 with the loss.
Zandieh combined with fellow senior Jan Marco Jiras (Lima, Peru) for
an 8-4 victory at No. 1 doubles over Lam Nguyen and Matt Milwicz. Caldwell's
No. 3 doubles team of junior Michael Ober (Lavalette, NJ/Point Beach)
and freshman Josh Getka (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May) also won its
match with Baris Sonmez and Mario Bodoy. In singles, Zandieh defeated Priyen

N.J. - The Caldwell College men's tennis team fell to Adelphi University,
9-0, in the Cougars' first home match of the season Friday afternoon at the
Caldwell College Tennis Courts. The result keeps the Cougars winless on the
season at 0-4, while the Panthers improve to 7-6.
Adelphi won all but one match in straight sets, with junior Michael Ober
(Lavallette, NJ/Point Beach) taking Pierre Streat to a third set before
losing, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 at fifth singles.
The Cougars return to the courts on Saturday, Apr. 12, with a dual at
Rutgers-Newark.

N.Y. - The Caldwell College men's tennis team came up short in a dual with
St. Thomas Aquinas College, losing 5-4 in Sparkill, N.Y. The result leaves
the Cougars looking for their first win of the season with an 0-3 record.
Freshman Josh Getka (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May) earned his first
career victory in singles while also combining with senior Amir Zandieh
(Tehran, Iran/Montville) for a win at No. 2 doubles.
Getka and Zandieh (right) picked up Caldwell's only doubles win, defeating
Jeff Boyce and Mike Antolini, 8-4. Then in singles play, Getka beat Jerone
Dunbar, 8-6 at No. 6 singles. Juniors Alex Ali (Lakewood,
NJ/Monsignor Donovan) and Michael Ober (Lavallette, NJ/Point Beach)
also won their matches in straight sets at first and fifth singles,
respectively. The deciding match ended up being at third doubles, with the
Spartans winning in a tie-breaker, 9-8 (7-5).
Caldwell plays its first home match of the season on Friday, Apr. 11, when
the Cougars host Adelphi University at 2:00 p.m. at the Caldwell College
Tennis Courts.

East Stroudsburg University, 8-1 Monday afternoon. The Cougars, who were
playing their first match in over three weeks, drop to 0-2 on the season,
while the Warriors improve to 2-5.
The Cougars picked up their only win of the day at No. 3 singles, where
senior Jan Marco Jiras (Lima, Peru) defeated Will Norris, 7-5, 4-6
(6-10).
Junior Alex Ali (Lakewood, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) lost a close match
at No. 1 singles to Jeff Kurz, 3-6, 6-4 (10-4).

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - The Caldwell College men's tennis team dropped a dual
to Pace University, 7-2 in the team's 2008 season opener Thursday night at
the Saw Mill Tennis Center. The Cougars, who posted a 5-4 record last
season, picked up wins at No. 2 doubles and No. 1 singles.
Junior Alex Ali (Lakewood, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) won his match at
first singles over Garrett Boyd, 6-1, 6-2 in his first collegiate
competition. Seniors Jan Marco Jiras (Lima, Peru) and Amir Zandieh
(Tehran, Iran/Montville) combines at No. 2 doubles to defeat Boyd and
Andrew Hagen, 8-4 for Caldwell's other point. Jiras narrowly lost a
three-set match to Dan Klein at No. 3 singles, 6-7, 6-4, 6-2.
The Cougars return to the court on Mar. 19 with a dual at Bloomfield

LUKACS TO COACH TENNIS TEAMS AT CALDWELL COLLEGE

CALDWELL, N.J. - Caldwell College Executive Director of Athletics Mark A.
Corino has announced the hiring of Michael Lukacs as head tennis
coach. Lukacs will coach both of Caldwell's men's and
women's tennis programs and also serve as an assistant for the men's
basketball team.
Lukacs has been involved in tennis as a player and instructor since his
youth. A 1987 graduate of the University of Maine, Lukacs earned his
Bachelor's degree in Education, which included courses in tennis coaching.
He worked as a tennis instructor for the Belfast Area Tennis Club in
Belfast, Maine for four years. He also has 10 years of experience as a
basketball coach on the collegiate level.
"I'm looking forward to the opportunity to build the tennis programs at
Caldwell College and bring in student-athletes who will help us be
successful," Lukacs said. "Both the men's and women's teams have experienced
individual and team success recently, and I hope to build on that
foundation."
Caldwell's women's tennis team returns five players from last season's 6-8
squad, but must replace Oksana Manoukian (Old Tappan, NJ/Northern
Valley Regional), who was the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player
of the Year after winning the CACC Singles Tournament last fall. The men's team
went 5-4 in dual matches this past spring.
A native of Somerset, N.J., Lukacs and his wife Rosalie currently reside in
Middletown, N.J.
