WATERBURY, Conn. - Despite setting a season high for the most points in a
three-game match, the Caldwell College volleyball team lost to Post
University, 30-28, 30-23, 30-24 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference
match Wednesday night. The Cougars are now 0-16 overall and 0-15 in
the conference with one match to play in their inaugural season.
After trailing 14-7 in game one, the Cougars rallied for eight straight
points with sophomore Laura DeVico (Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack)
serving, and eventually took a 26-23 lead. But the Eagles managed to score
seven of the game's final nine points, including the last two points on
kills by Tadj Williams, to take the first game. Caldwell battled back in the
second and third games but were unable to hold off the Eagles, who tallied
the last five points of game three to break open a close game and wrap up
the match.
Junior Phylicia Holmes (Roselle, NJ/Roselle) led the Cougars with
nine kills, while sophomore Laura Ciesla (Chicago, IL/Lane Tech) had
12 assists. Defensively, DeVico and senior Amy Ransom (Chattanooga,
TN/Notre Dame) recorded 13 and 11 digs, respectively, while Holmes and
sophomore Ashley Cusack (Belmar, NJ/St. Rose) each had two block
assists. Williams finished with 16 kills, while Gabrielle Holmes had 36
assists to pace the Eagles.
The Cougars close out the 2006 season on Saturday, Oct. 21 with a CACC match
at Goldey-Beacom College. The match begins at 1:00 p.m. in Wilmington, Del.
