7-3-07
CALDWELL, N.J. – Five student-athletes will be joining the Caldwell College
volleyball team starting in the fall of 2007, head coach Megan Hrbek
announced. The incoming class consists of Justine Pecora of Clifton,
N.J., Cory Roesing and Kendra Kane of Secaucus, N.J., and
Kathleen Estes and Gena Przeszlo of Lyndhurst, N.J. The recruits
join a Cougar volleyball program that last fall competed in its first
intercollegiate season in 15 years.
“I’m thrilled to have such a talented group of student-athletes choose
Caldwell College,” Hrbek said. “Each player brings an impressive list of
accomplishments while playing on successful high school and club teams.
These additions will solidify our lineup and allow us to run a more
diversified and aggressive offense, which will take our program to the next
level.”
Pecora, a 5-foot-11 outside hitter, attended Mount St. Dominic Academy in
Caldwell, N.J., where she earned all-Essex County second team honors as a
junior and senior. She also was named to the NJSIAA Prep All-State first
team as a senior and received the NJSIAA Scholar Athlete Award. A two-time
all-Northern Hills Conference first team selection, Pecora also made the
all-Non-Public second team in 2006.
Roesing comes to Caldwell after an outstanding athletic career at Secaucus
High School. A 5-9 middle blocker, she earned first team All-State honors as
a junior and senior after leading her team to back-to-back Group 1 state
titles. Roesing, who also was named a Highest Honorable Mention High School
All-American by Prepvolleyball.com, recorded 905 kills in her career to rank
12th all-time in New Jersey history. The 2006-07 Hudson Reporter Female
Athlete of the Year, Roesing was named all-Group 1 first team in basketball
and all-Group 1 second team in softball. She holds the school records for
points and rebounds in basketball and home runs in softball.
Kane is a 5-7 setter who attended Lacordaire Academy in Upper Montclair,
N.J. She was named to the all-Non-Public second team as a junior and senior
at Lacordaire while earning all-Essex County second team honors in 2006. In
2005, Kane helped Lacordaire advance to the finals of the NJSIAA Non-Public
State Tournament.
Estes and Przeszlo were teammates at Lyndhurst High School, where they led
the Golden Bears to their first appearance in the state tournament as
seniors. Estes, a 5-8 outside hitter, was selected to the Bergen County
Scholastic League first team in 2006. Przeszlo, a 5-9 middle blocker, earned
BCSL second team accolades while also receiving the BCSL Annette Annunziato
Award of Courage.
The Cougars, who compete in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference at
the NCAA Division II level, were 0-17 in their inaugural season in 2006.
