PHILADELPHIA,
Pa. - The Caldwell College women's basketball team lost to
league-leading Holy Family University, 75-49 in a Central Atlantic
Collegiate Conference game Thursday night at the Campus Center. The
defeat ended the Cougars' two-game winning streak, dropping their
record to 5-12 overall and 5-9 in the CACC. The Tigers, who haven't
lost since the first game of the season, are now 16-1 on the year,
including a perfect 14-0 mark in the conference.
The Tigers never trailed, opening with a 12-2 run in the first six
minutes of the game. The lead grew to as many as 21 points before a
pair of free throws by sophomore forward Melissa Freeman
(Cresskill, NJ/Cresskill) and a basket by sophomore guard Phylicia
Holmes (Roselle, NJ/Roselle) made the score 34-17 in favor of Holy
Family at the break. The second half was more of the same, as the
Cougars managed to score just seven points in the first 13 minutes of
the half, allowing the Tigers to build a 60-24 lead. Holy Family
cruised to their second win over the Cougars this season and sixth
straight over the past three seasons.
All 11 players scored for Caldwell, although no one scored more than
eight points. Freshman guard Laura Ciesla (Chicago, IL/Lane
Tech) came off the bench to make a pair of three-pointers en route to
eight points, while Holmes, pictured, grabbed a team-high 10 boards.
The Tigers' Megan Bauer recorded a double-double with 16 points and 12
rebounds, while Chrissy Kosiek added 12 points and seven rebounds.
The Cougars return to the court on Saturday, Jan. 28, when they host
CACC-foe Georgian Court University at 1:00 p.m. in the George R.
Newman Center.
