N.J. - The Caldwell College women's basketball team
lost to Nyack College, 57-52 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game
Tuesday evening in Nyack, N.Y. With the loss, the Cougars fell to 7-17 overall
and 7-14 in the CACC, while the Warriors improved to 4-19 on the season,
including a 3-17 conference mark. Sophomore forward Melissa Freeman (Cresskill,
NJ/Cresskill), pictured, recorded a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds for
Caldwell.
Nyack built an 11-4 lead in the first seven minutes of the game before six
points from Freeman sparked an 8-0 run to give the Cougars a 12-11 advantage
midway through the first half. The score remained close the the rest of the
first half, with the Warriors leading 24-21 at the break.
The Warriors hung on to the lead until a six straight points by Caldwell put
the Cougars up 32-30 at the 11:40 mark of the second half. Sarah Hindmark's
three-pointer three minutes later allowed Nyack to regain the lead, igniting
an 11-2 spree that gave the Warriors a 46-39 advantage with 4:50 to go. The
Cougars came within three points three times but would get no closer, as the
Warriors avenged a 67-59 defeat to Caldwell earlier this season.
Freeman's 18 points and 13 boards was her team-leading sixth double-double of
the season. Sophomore forward Dana Leary (Bridgewater, NJ/Immaculata)
pitched in 14 points, and sophomore guard Phylicia Holmes (Roselle,
NJ/Roselle) grabbed nine rebounds to go with six points. Tamyra Lathon led the
Warriors with 16 points.
Next up for the Cougars is a home game with N.J.I.T. on Saturday, Feb. 18.
Game time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. in the George R. Newman Center.
