COUGARS PICK UP CACC VICTORY AT WILMINGTON IN WOMEN'S HOOPS

CASTLE, Del. - Junior forward Amy Gaudious (Long Branch,
NJ/Long Branch), right, and sophomore forward Melissa Freeman
(Cresskill, NJ/Cresskill) each scored 15 points apiece as the Caldwell
College women's basketball team defeated Wilmington College, 78-66
Saturday afternoon at the Pratt Center. The win completes the Cougars'
season sweep of the Wildcats and gives Caldwell a 7-16 overall mark,
including a 7-11 record in the CACC. The Wildcats drop to 5-18, 4-16
CACC with the loss.
Wilmington built a 20-14 lead midway through the first half. But the
Cougars reeled off a 21-2 run, scoring the final 17 points of the half
to take a 35-22 lead into the break. Gaudious scored five points and
Freeman tallied four points in the run, which saw the Wildcats turn
the ball over 15 times and shoot 1-of-8 from the field over the final
11 minutes of the first period.
Caldwell maintained no less than an eight-point lead during the second
half. Junior guard Shannon Coyle (Matawan, NJ/St. John Vianney)
hit a three-pointer at the 7:18 mark to cap a 14-3 spree and give the
Cougars a 62-42 advantage. Wilmington pulled to within 65-56 with 4:28
to play, but the Wildcats would get no closer as Caldwell closed out
the victory.
Gaudious
was 6-of-12 from the field en route to a career-high 15 points in just
18 minutes, while Freeman went 7-of-8 from the line and 4-of-6 from
the floor in 19 minutes of action. Coyle finished with 13 points and
four assists, sophomore forward Dana Leary (Bridgewater, NJ/Immaculata)
scored 10 points, and sophomore guard Phylicia Holmes (Roselle,
NJ/Roselle) grabbed a game-high nine boards. Holmes has led the
Cougars in rebounding in seven of the past eight games. Katelin
Klingert scored 18 points to pace the Wildcats.
The Cougars return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 14, when they travel to
Nyack, N.Y., to face Nyack College in a CACC game. Tip-off is set for
6:00 p.m.
