CALDWELL CHOSEN NINTH IN CACC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PRESEASON POLL
11-9-06
CALDWELL,
N.J. - The Caldwell College women's basketball team was picked to finish ninth
in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference by the CACC's preseason poll,
released Wednesday. The Cougars received 48 points in voting done by the
league's 12 head coaches, which selected Holy Family University as the
favorite to win the conference title in 2006-07.
First-year head coach Linda Cimino inherits a squad that returns all 10
players from last year's team that went 8-20 overall and took eighth in the
conference with a CACC mark of 8-16. Junior forward Melissa Freeman
(Cresskill, NJ/Cresskill) led the team in scoring with 11.1 points per game,
while junior guard Phylicia Holmes (Roselle, NJ/Roselle) averaged a
team-best 8.3 rebounds per contest last season. The Cougars also feature
senior guard Shannon Coyle (Matawan, NJ/St. John Vianney) and junior
guard Dana Leary (Bridgewater, NJ/Immaculata), who each averaged over
10 points per game a year ago. Coyle, Freeman, Holmes, Leary and senior guard
Amy Ransom (Chattanooga, TN/Notre Dame) account for over 66 percent of
Caldwell's scoring production over the past two seasons.
The Cougars begin the 2006-07 campaign at the Bloomsburg University Tournament
on Friday, Nov. 17 against Lock Haven University.
