LYNCH RECEIVES PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS FROM CACC, MBWA
12-11-06
CALDWELL,
N.J. - Caldwell College sophomore forward Mackenzie
Lynch (Wayne, NJ/DePaul Catholic) was chosen the Central Atlantic
Collegiate Conference Player of the Week for the week ending Dec. 10, the
league announced today. She also earned Player of the Week accolades from the
New York Area Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association. Lynch led the Cougars to a 2-1 record against three
conference foes, averaging 34.3 points and 14.3 rebounds per game.
Lynch capped off an outstanding week with a 44-point, 22-rebound effort in an
82-72 overtime victory over the University of Sciences, last year's CACC
Tournament champions. In the win, Lynch made 16-of-22 from the field,
including 10-of-11 after halftime, while going a perfect 12-of-12 from the
free throw line, to help the Cougars end a five-game losing streak to the
Devils. Earlier in the week, she recorded 34 points, 12 rebounds and four
steals to lead Caldwell over Felician College, 84-53 on Dec. 5. Lynch also
tallied 25 points and nine boards against Dominican College on Dec. 7. For the
week, Lynch shot 67.8 percent from the field and 85.2 percent from the line
while scoring 103 points.
Lynch becomes the first Caldwell women's basketball player to win the
conference's weekly award since senior guard Shannon Coyle (Matawan,
NJ/St. John Vianney) received the honor on Dec. 20, 2004. She is also the
first Cougar to receive the Presto Sports/MBWA Women's Player of the Week
award, which includes nearly 75 schools in the Tri-state area across all
divisions. Marist's Jared Jordan is this week's Presto Sports/MBWA Men's
Player of the Week.
Lynch and the Cougars are back in action on Saturday, Dec. 16, when they host
Wilmington College. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
