CALDWELL WOMEN TABBED FOR THIRD IN CACC NORTH
11-9-07
CALDWELL,
N.J. - The Caldwell College women's basketball team was chosen third in the
North Division in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Preseason Poll,
the league announced today. The Cougars, who were 10-17 a year ago, were
ranked behind Dominican and Bloomfield in the North, with 51 points.
Defending CACC champion Holy Family University received 13 first-place votes
to earn the top spot in the South Division.
Eight players, including four starters, return from last season's team that
went 8-14 in the CACC to finish one spot out of the conference tournament.
Junior forward Mackenzie Lynch (Wayne, NJ/DePaul Catholic) is back
after averaging a team-best 18.5 points and 10.8 rebounds per game to earn
all-CACC second team and all-Met first team honors. The Cougars, coached by
Linda Cimino, also have four seniors in guards Khaliqa Davis
(Newark, NJ/Bloomfield Tech), Phylicia Holmes (pictured) (Roselle,
NJ/Roselle) and Dana Leary (Bridgewater, NJ/Immaculata), and forward
Melissa Freeman (Englewood, NJ/Cresskill).
This is the first season the conference will have divisional standings, with
the top four teams in each division qualifying for the CACC Tournament. The
addition of Chestnut Hill College brings the total number of CACC members to
12 for the men and 13 for the women.
The Cougars open the 2007-08 season at a tournament at Bloomsburg University
on Friday, Nov. 16. Caldwell faces the host Huskies at 8:00 p.m. Friday,
then plays East Stroudsburg University on Saturday, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
