CALDWELL,
N.J. - Balanced scoring helped the Caldwell College women's basketball team
defeat Post University, 77-53 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference
game Wednesday night in the George R. Newman Center. The victory gives the
Cougars a 10-6 record on the season, including a 4-4 mark in the conference,
while the Eagles drop to 3-13, 3-6 CACC.
The Cougars took control of the game right from the opening tip, scoring the
first 10 points in the game's first two minutes and 25 seconds. The lead
would grow to as many as 15 points before Post used a 7-0 run to cut the
Caldwell advantage to 33-25 with 2:26 left in the half. But the Cougars
ended the first period with a 7-2 spree, buoyed by a three-pointer from
freshman guard Stephanie Cadet (Elmont, NY/Elmont Memorial), that put
Caldwell up 40-27 at the break.
Five points by Cadet and six from junior forward Mackenzie Lynch
(Wayne, NJ/DePaul Catholic) sparked a 17-4 run over the first 6:26 of the
second half that resulted in a 57-31 lead. That run all but locked up the
victory for Caldwell, as the Eagles never came closer than 19 points the
rest of the way. The Cougars shot 47.1 percent from the floor and forced 27
Post turnovers while committing 15 miscues of their own. The victory allowed
Caldwell to match its win total of last season with 11 games yet to play.
Four Cougars, led by Lynch's 13 points, scored in double figures, with nine
players scoring at least four points. Cadet finished with 12 points and a
game-high seven rebounds, junior forward Janay Perkins (Bronx,
NY/Walton) scored 11 points and freshman guard Abena George (Elmont,
NY/Elmont Memorial) had 10 points to match her career high. Post's Mallory
Michalak tallied a game-best 16 points in a losing effort.
The Cougars continue CACC play with a game at Georgian Court University on
Saturday, Jan. 26. Game time is set for 12:00 p.m. in Lakewood, N.J.
