CALDWELL PICKED TO FINISH THIRD IN CACC NORTH DIVISION

10-31-08
CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College women's basketball team was predicted to take third in the North Division, according to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Preseason Poll, which was released by the league today. The Cougars received one first-place vote and a total of 61 points, one point behind Bloomfield College and 11 behind the favorite and defending division champion Dominican College.

The Cougars, coached by Linda Cimino, had their best season in five years in 2007-08, finishing 18-12 after advancing to the CACC Tournament quarterfinals and the ECAC Tournament finals. Senior forward Mackenzie Lynch (Wayne, NJ/DePaul Catholic) leads the returnees after averaging 12.9 points and 9.4 rebounds per game en route to earning thirdteam all-CACC and first team all-Met honors. The team's other seniors are forwards Janay Perkins (Bronx, NY/Walton), pictured, and Janay Prim (Ansonia, CT/Kolbe Cathedral).

Last season the Cougars took third in the North Division with a 10-7 record in conference play to earn a spot in the CACC Tournament after missing the postseason in 2007. After being eliminated in the quarterfinals by Bloomfield, the Cougars were invited to play in the ECAC Tournament for the first time in the program's history. Caldwell defeated host Philadelphia University before losing in the final to Wilmington University. The team's 18 wins marked the program's most victories since the 2003 team finished 21-8.

The Cougars open the 2008-09 campaign with a non-conference game at home against Molloy College on Saturday, Nov. 15.
