LEEDHAM RECEIVES THIRD PLAYER OF THE WEEK AWARD

2-3-09
CALDWELL, N.J. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference is the latest organization to honor Caldwell College sophomore guard Kirsty Leedham (Ellesmere Port, England/Cheshire Acad.) with its Women's Basketball Co-Player of the Week award, the ECAC announced today. Leedham earned Player of the Week accolades from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association on Monday for scoring a total of 92 points over three games last week.

In an 88-66 victory over Post University on Jan. 27, Leedham set her career high for the second straight game with 43 points on 13-of-24 shooting from the field, including 3-of-6 from three-point range. Her offensive outburst is the highest single-game scoring total in the CACC this season. She also fell one point shy of the school record of 44 points, shared by current teammate Mackenzie Lynch (Wayne, NJ/DePaul Catholic) and former Cougar standout Danielle Ciresi. Leedham followed with a 29-point game at Dominican College on Jan. 29. She wrapped up the week scoring 20 points in a narrow 60-58 loss to Georgian Court University at home on Jan. 31.

For the week, Leedham averaged 30.7 points,
4.3 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.3 assists and was 9-of-21 (.429) on three-point attempts and 27-of-33 (.818) from the free throw line. She also made her mark on defense, recording five steals against Post and four against Georgian Court. The Cougars' leading three-point shooter, Leedham has made at least three three-pointers in nine of her past 10 games.

Leedham paces the Cougars in scoring at 17.7 points per game, which ranks third in the CACC. She also ranks third in the conference in steals (2.4 per game) and three-pointers made (2.3 per game).

The ECAC's membership includes 320 colleges and universities from Maine to Georgia and westerly to Illinois. Caldwell student-athletes have received weekly and year-end honors from the ECAC since joining the organization in 2004, and the men's and women's soccer teams and men's and women's basketball teams have competed in ECAC championship tournaments. Last week, Caldwell men's basketball player Manny Perez (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) was named the ECAC Co-Player of the Week.

The Cougars, who are 7-11 on the season, host Post University tonight. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. in the George R. Newman Center.
