CALDWELL,
N.J. - The Caldwell College women's basketball team announced its schedule
for the upcoming 2008-09 season. Highlights include a regular-season contest
at Division I Seton Hall University, two games in Florida and the Caldwell
College Holiday Classic. The Cougars were 18-12 and advanced to the finals
of the ECAC Tournament a year ago.
Caldwell, coached by Linda Cimino, open the 2008-09 campaign with a
home game in the George R. Newman Center against Molloy College on Saturday,
Nov. 15 as part of a doubleheader with the men's team. On Monday, Nov. 17,
the Cougars will face Seton Hall University at Walsh Gym in South Orange,
N.J. The game marks the first time the Cougars' women's team has played a
Division I opponent in a regular-season game. Caldwell then heads to Florida
for games against Lynn University on Nov. 23 and Barry University on Nov.
25. The first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game is on Dec. 2
against Felician College at home in the Newman Center.
The Cougars will host the Caldwell College Holiday Classic on Dec. 19-20,
with games against Queens College and Mercy College. Both men's and women's
teams from Caldwell, Queens, Mercy and Felician will participate in the
Classic at the Newman Center. The other tournament on the schedule is the
Pace University Tournament, held in Pleasantville, N.Y. The Cougars will
play the host Setters on Dec. 29 before facing the University of New Haven
on Dec. 30.
Other non-conference opponents include Adelphi University (Dec. 13) and
Dowling College (Jan. 4) of the East Coast Conference. Key CACC match-ups in
the Newman Center include rival Bloomfield College on Jan. 8, defending CACC
Tournament champions Holy Family University on Feb. 14, and Dominican
College, which won the CACC North Division, on Feb. 24. The first round of
the CACC Tournament will be on Mar. 2 at campus sites, with the semifinals
and finals at Philadelphia University on Mar. 6-7.
Two-time all-CACC forward Mackenzie Lynch (Wayne, NJ/DePaul Catholic)
is one of 10 players back from last year's team that placed third in the
CACC North and qualified for the ECAC Tournament for the first time in the
program's history. The Cougars beat host Philadelphia before falling to
Wilmington University in the finals.
