DELUCCA CHOSEN CACC PLAYER OF THE YEAR11-2-05
Delucca leads the Cougars (8-7-3, 6-3-2 CACC) with 10 goals and seven assists for 27 points and ranks third in the CACC in all three categories. Delucca, named the conference's Player of the Week on Sept. 19, scored three goals in a win over Bloomfield College Sept. 7 and tallied a pair of goals in a tie with Molloy College Sept. 19. She also notched the game-winner in double overtime to defeat Nyack College on Sept. 14. Delucca's outstanding season followed a freshman campaign in which she totaled five goals and two assists for 12 points en route to all-CACC second team honors.
Joining Delucca on the first team are sophomore midfielder Carla Bleiler (Galloway Twp., NJ/Absegami) and freshman midfielder Kristee Paknis (Whiting, NJ/Manchester). Bleiler, the 2004 CACC Newcomer of the Year, repeats as a first-team selection after recording 19 points on seven goals and five assists to rank in a tie for second on the team with Paknis. In two key CACC matches, she scored the game-winning goals as the Cougars defeated Wilmington Sept. 24 and Georgian Court in overtime Sept. 28.
Paknis ranks second in the conference with nine assists to go with five goals, including the game-winning tally against Post Oct. 5. Paknis, who sat out the 2004 season with a knee injury, had a pair of assists against Wilmington and scored twice in an 8-2 victory over Felician in the regular-season finale. She was named the CACC Player of the Week on Oct. 10 and the Rookie of the Week on Oct. 25.
Junior defender Lindsay Gregoris (Woodbury, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) was the only Cougar named to the second team. A first-team all-CACC selection in 2004, Gregoris anchored the Caldwell defense while also recording her first career assist against Molloy. Junior midfielder Victoria Aguilera (Merida, Venezuela/Saucon Valley) also received all-CACC honorable mention. Aguilera, a two-time all-CACC second team choice, has five goals and four assists for 14 points this season.
The Cougars will play Goldey-Beacom College in the semifinals of the CACC Tournament on Thursday, Nov. 3 at 12:00 p.m. at Tryon Field in Rutherford, N.J.
