WOMEN'S SOCCER LOSES TO HOLY FAMILY 4-1
9-10-05
Holy Family struck early in the game when Brianne Redelheim collected a pass from Jamie Wallace and scored just 2:41 into the first half. The goal was the Tigers' first tally of the season. Then in the ninth minute, Maureen O'Neill headed Redelheim's corner kick to Theresa Cirino, whose header found the net for a 2-0 lead.
With the score 2-0 after the first half, the Cougars came out strong after the break. Just 1:22 into the second half, sophomore midfielder Carla Bleiler (Galloway Twp./Absegami), pictured, controlled a rebound off of a shot by sophomore forward Brook Delucca (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) and scored from 10 yards out to cut the deficit to 2-1. The Tigers held off Caldwell's attack and then restored their two-goal lead when Melissa Gamble headed home a corner kick from O'Neill in the 64th minute. O'Neill then added an insurance goal in the 79th minute.
Freshman goalkeeper Annie LaForge (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) made six saves in goal for the Cougars, while Kristy Cusick recorded five saves for Holy Family. Caldwell had won six straight home contests and hadn't lost at Caldwell Field since Nov. 1, 2003.
The Cougars return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 14, when they travel to Nyack, N.Y., to face Nyack College in another CACC contest. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
