WOMEN'S SOCCER DRAWS WITH N.J.I.T., 1-1

NEWARK, N.J. - The Caldwell College women's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie with N.J.I.T. in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match Saturday morning at Lubetkin Field. The Cougars are now 7-4-2 overall and 5-2-1 in the conference, while the Highlanders are 6-4-2, 6-1-2 in the CACC.

 

After a scoreless first half, freshman midfielder Kristee Paknis (Whiting, NJ/Manchester) put the Cougars up 1-0 with a goal in the 51st minute. Sophomore midfielder Carla Bleiler (Galloway Twp., NJ/Absegami) and junior midfielder Victoria Aguilera (Merida, Venezuela/Saucon Valley) assisted on Paknis' goal, her second in as many games and third of the season. But in the 87th minute, N.J.I.T.'s Dena Baskous knotted the game at 1-1 with a header off an assist from Erika Taugher. Neither team was able to score through two 10-minute overtime periods as the game ended in a tie.

 

Sophomore goalkeeper Jen Borden (Hamilton, NJ/Nottingham), pitcured, turned in a strong performance in the Cougars' goal, making nine saves.

 

Next up for the Cougars is a non-conference game with Queens College on Monday, Oct. 10. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
