N.Y. - Sophomore midfielder Kristee Paknis (Whiting,
NJ/Manchester), right, snapped a 2-2 tie with a goal in the 72nd
minute to lift the Caldwell College women's soccer team to a 3-2
victory at Queens College in a non-conference game Monday afternoon.
The win gives the Cougars an overall record of 6-9 and ends a two-game
losing streak, while the Knights fall to 3-7-1.
Cheryl Meaney put Queens on the board first with a goal off a corner
kick in the 14th minute. A little more than two minutes later, junior
forward Brook Delucca (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) tied the game at 1-1
with an unassisted goal, her second of the year. Then in the 32nd
minute, senior defender Patty Clark (North Brunswick, NJ/North
Brunswick), left, scored off an assist from senior defender Jenna
Crance (Colonia, NJ/Colonia) to put the Cougars ahead 2-1.
In the second half, Meaney helped the Knights tie the game at 2-2,
assisting on Catherine Galiano's goal in the 57th minute. Paknis broke
the tie with a left-footed shot that tucked into the left corner of
the goal for her fifth goal of the season and her second game-winner.
Sophomore midfielder Samantha Rinks (Corinth, TX/Billy Ryan) earned
the assist on Paknis' goal.
Senior
goalkeeper Richelle Morse (Mount Holly, NJ/Rancocas Valley)
faced 21 shots and made six saves to preserve the victory. Valentina
Duque recorded six saves as well, while the Knights were credited with
two team saves.
The Cougars will face conference rival Bloomfield College on Thursday,
Oct. 12 in Bloomfield, N.J. Kick-off is set for 4:00 p.m. at Watessing
Park.
