CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College women's soccer team lost a
non-conference game to the College of St. Rose, 6-1 Saturday
afternoon at Caldwell Field. The loss drops the Cougars to 2-3
overall, while the Golden Knights, ranked eighth in the latest NSCAA/adidas
Division II poll, remain unbeaten at 4-0.
Ashely McGuire and Deanna Wachtel each scored in the first half to
put St. Rose ahead 2-0. The Golden Knights put two more goals on the
board within the first 11 minutes of the second half, as Kailey
Egbert and Sami Brown found the net less than two minutes apart. The
Cougars tallied their goal just 33 seconds after Brown's goal, when
junior forward Brook Delucca (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) took a pass
from senior midfielder Victoria Aguilera (Merida, Venezuela/Saucon
Valley) and fired a shot into the upper left corner of the goal for
her first of the season. McGuire notched her second goal of the game
in the 63rd minute off a miscue by the Caldwell defenders. April
Spanicciati closed out the scoring with her first goal of the season
in the 70th minute.
Senior goalkeeper Richelle Morse (Mount Holly, NJ/Rancocas
Valley) made two saves for the Cougars, while Shannon Murphy, who
played the second half in relief of starter Lauren Steinberg,
recorded two saves for the Golden Knights.
The Cougars return to the field on Thursday, Sept. 14 with a Central
Atlantic Collegiate Conference game against Georgian Court
University. The game is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. at Caldwell
Field.
