LAKEWOOD,
N.J. - Caitlyn Schultheis scored with just 19 second remaining in
regulation to lift Georgian Court University over Caldwell College
in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's soccer match
Wednesday afternoon. The goal was the only blemish on an outstanding
effort by freshman goalkeeper Lauren Hoenig (Howell,
NJ/Howell), who stopped 23 shots for the Cougars. Caldwell is now
2-6 overall and 2-2 in conference play, while the Lions improve to
6-6 overall, 3-1 CACC.
With the clock winding down, Nicole Mateyka sent the ball to
Schultheis, who headed it past Hoenig for the only goal of the game.
Georgian Court took 32 shots in the win but managed only Schultheis'
dramatic tally in the 90th minute. Hoenig, who has played every
minute of all eight games this season, previously had a career high
of 12 saves before Wednesday's effort. The Lions' Lindsay Hammond
made one save to earn the shutout.
The Cougars host Goldey-Beacom College on Saturday, Sept. 29 as a
part of Homecoming festivities at Caldwell College. The women's game
starts at 11:00 a.m., with the men's game to follow at 1:00 p.m. at
Caldwell Field.
