HOENIG NAMED ECAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
10-3-07
CALDWELL,
N.J. - Caldwell College freshman goalkeeper Lauren Hoenig
(Howell, NJ/Howell) was chosen the Division II Defensive Player of
the Week by the ECAC for the week ending Sept. 30, the organization
announced Tuesday. The award is the second of the week for Hoenig,
who earned Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week
honors on Monday.
Hoenig helped the Cougars go 1-1 in conference play last week to
improve to 3-2 in the CACC and 3-6 overall. On Sept. 26, Hoenig made
23 saves against Georgian Court University before surrendering the
game's only goal just 19 seconds before the end of regulation. Then
in Caldwell's 2-0 victory over Goldey-Beacom College on Sept. 29,
Hoenig recorded four saves for her first career shutout. She has
played every minute of all nine games in goal for the Cougars this
season.
The ECAC is the nation’s largest athletic and the only multi-divisional
conference with 324 Divisions I, II, and III colleges and universities from
Maine to North Carolina. Caldwell College has been a member of the ECAC
since 2004.
Hoenig and the Cougars host 21st-ranked Dowling College on Thursday, Oct.
4, beginning at 4:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
