LOWELL, Mass. - The Caldwell College women's soccer team dropped a
non-conference match to the University of Massachusetts-Lowell, 2-0
Saturday afternoon at Cushing Field. With the loss, the Cougars fall
to 4-10 on the year, while the River Hawks improve to 9-6-1.
Tanekar Alexander scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in
the 31st minute with a header off a cross from Michelle LaMar. In
the 57th minute, a pass from Brianne Bozella sent Natalia Mendoza in
alone on Caldwell freshman goalkeeper Lauren Hoenig (Howell,
NJ/Howell). Mendoza scored on the breakaway for a 2-0 River Hawks'
lead.
Hoenig finished with 10 saves, including seven in the second half.
The performance marks the fifth time this season that Hoenig has
recorded 10 or more saves in a game. UMass-Lowell's Jamie Gillis
made two saves for the shutout, her seventh of the year.
The Cougars play at Dominican College on Monday, Oct. 15 in a
Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game. The match is scheduled
to begin at 4:00 p.m. in Orangeburg, N.Y.
