WOMEN'S SOCCER PICKED SIXTH IN CACC PRESEASON POLL
CALDWELL,
N.J. - The Caldwell College women's soccer team was predicted to finish
sixth this season by the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference 2008
Preseason Poll, the league announced. The poll has the Cougars, coached
by Nate Guagliardi, moving up one spot from last year’s
seventh-place finish. Defending CACC champion Holy Family University is
the favorite after receiving seven first-place votes in the poll, which
was voted on by the conference’s 12 head coaches.
Last season Caldwell was 5-14 overall and 5-6 in the CACC, tying for
seventh with Nyack College and qualifying for the CACC Tournament for
the third time in four seasons. Three-time all-CACC midfielder
Kristee Paknis (Whiting, NJ/Manchester), pictured, is back after
leading the Cougars in scoring with eight goals and three assists for 19
points. On the eve of her senior season, Paknis has totaled 57 points in
57 games for Caldwell. The team’s two other returning seniors are
midfielder Samantha Rinks (Corinth, TX/Billy Ryan) and defender
Kim Fenton (Galloway Twp., NJ/Absegami), who received all-CACC
honorable mention last fall.
Due to the graduation of seven seniors from last year’s squad, the
Cougars have just five players returning. They will be joined by an
incoming recruiting class of 17 players that includes five transfers and
12 freshmen.
Caldwell starts the 2008 season at the American International Tournament
on Aug. 29 in Springfield, Mass.
