10-30-08
CALDWELL, N.J. - Caldwell College senior midfielder Samantha Rinks (Corinth, TX/Billy Ryan) was chosen to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District 2 Women's Soccer first team by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced today. Rinks becomes the first Caldwell College women's soccer player to receive the prestigious honor.

Student-athletes must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.30 and be a starter or significant reserve to be nominated. Rinks and the other first team all-District honorees will be on the ballot for the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-American teams. District 2 consists of NCAA Division II and III institutions located in New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.

A psychology major at Caldwell, Rinks is a two-time member of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference All-Academic Team, which requires a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher. This season, she has five goals and a team-high seven assists to rank second on the team in points with 17. Rinks scored the game-winning goal in double-overtime in a 2-1 victory over Dominican College on Oct. 2. She also tallied the game's only goal in a 1-0 win at Wilmington College on Oct. 11. The two victories helped the Cougars finish fourth in the CACC with a record of 7-3-1.

Rinks has played in all 75 games in four years at Caldwell, registering 72 starts. She has 17 goals and 11 assists for 45 points in her career.

Rinks and the Cougars will host a first-round game in the CACC Tournament on Monday, Nov. 3, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field. The Cougars will play either Felician College or Nyack College.
