SHIFFLER NAMED WOMEN'S SOCCER ASSISTANT COACH
8-15-08
CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College women's soccer team has added
Abby Shiffler to the coaching staff as an assistant coach. Shiffler,
a former standout goalkeeper at Monmouth University, will assist head
coach Nate Guagliardi with the Cougars' goalkeepers and defense
for the upcoming season.
A four-year starter in goal for Monmouth from 2001-04, Shiffler recorded
280 career saves to rank third on the program's all-time list. She
earned all-Northeast Conference second team honors as a freshman while
receiving the team's Rookie of the Year award. In 2002, Shiffler helped
the Hawks advance to the finals of the NEC Tournament, where they were
eliminated in a shootout by Central Connecticut State. As a junior, she
ranked second in the conference in both goals-against average and save
percentage.
Shiffler graduated from Monmouth in 2005 with a Bachelor's degree in
political science. She served as an assistant coach at Fairleigh
Dickinson University-Madison in 2006, and has been a goalkeeper trainer
in New Jersey and Washington, D.C., for the past three years. A native
of Hershey, Penn., Shiffler currently lives in Ocean, N.J.
"Abby will be a nice addition to our team," Guagliardi said. "She has
competed at a high level and was successful, and the team will benefit
from working with someone with her experience."
The Cougars start the 2008 season at the American International
Tournament in Springfield, Mass., on Aug. 29 against the host Yellow
Jackets.
