O'NEILL'S VICTORY GIVES COUGARS 5-4 WIN

MADISON, N.J. - Junior Erin O'Neill (River Edge, NJ/Barnstable Academy) came back from a 4-1 first-set deficit to defeat Eve Rodriguez 7-5, 6-4 at No. 4 singles and give the Cougars a 5-4 win at FDU-Madison on Monday. The Cougars improved to 2-0 on the season, equaling their total number of victories over the past two seasons.

The dual began with doubles matches, with the Cougars losing at second and third doubles. Caldwell's top doubles tandem of senior Stacy Zafiris (Palisades Park, NY/Palisades Park) and junior Oksana Manoukian (Old Tappan, NJ/Rutgers) won a tough contest 9-7 over Maggie Grzeirk and Caitlen Wyble as the Cougars entered singles play down 2-1 in the team scoring.

Manoukian and sophomore Joellen Keaney (Oak Bluffs, MA/Marthas Vineyard Regional) easily won their matches at first and third singles, respectively, but losses at second and sixth singles left the Cougars down 4-3 in the team score. Junior Kristi Godfrey (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) won her match at No. 5 singles 6-3, 6-3, setting up O'Neill's come -from-behind victory at No. 6 singles.

The Cougars return to the court on Thursday, Sept. 18, when they face Adelphi University in Garden City N.Y. at 4:00 p.m.
