COUGARS DEFEAT MOLLOY COLLEGE 8-1

The Caldwell College women's tennis team won all six singles matches and two of three in doubles to defeat Molloy College 8-1 Sunday afternoon at the Caldwell Tennis Courts. The Cougars are now 5-2-1 on the season.

Caldwell's top doubles team of senior Stacie Zafiris (Palisades Park, NY/Palisades Park) and junior Oksana Manoukian (Old Tappan, NJ/Rutgers) opened the dual with an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles. Junior Kristi Godfrey (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) and sophomore Danielle O'Connell (South Amboy, NJ/St. John Vianney) also picked up an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles.

In singles, Manoukian, Zafiris, sophomore Joellen Keaney (Oak Bluffs, MA/Marthas Vineyard Regional) and junior Erin O'Neill (River Edge, NJ/Barnstable Academy) each won their matches in straight sets. O'Connell downed Julie Lentino in a pro set, 8-4, while Godfrey edged Nicole Bernardo in three sets, 2-6, 6-2, 6-1.

The Cougars return to the courts Tuesday, Oct. 5, when they host St. Thomas Aquinas College at 4:00 p.m. at the Caldwell Tennis Courts.
